7 Things You Should Buy in Bulk

Buying in bulk can be a great way to save money and have the products you need when you need them. But at the same time, do you really need a one-gallon jug of ketchup?

Some products are better to buy in bulk than others. Knowing which products are best for you can be tricky. We generally recommend that if it’s a product you use regularly, you may want to check prices to see whether you’d be better off buying it in bulk.

While which products are best to buy in bulk may vary between different shoppers, the following seven items are some of our favorites to buy in bulk.

Oral Hygiene Products

If you do the same oral hygiene routine once or twice a day, you probably wind up using a lot of your favorite products over the course of a year. Club stores frequently offer excellent savings on toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, and floss, and buying them in bulk can save you the trouble of having to go to the store every time you run out.

Other Personal Care and Hygiene Products

Shampoo, conditioner, soap, deodorant, razors, pads, tampons, and similar products may be an important part of your personal care routine. Club stores tend to have good deals on these items, and they sometimes run sales to save you even more. Since many of these products have relatively long shelf lives, they’re usually easy to keep handy.

Paper Goods

Paper goods like toilet paper and paper towels generally don’t have expiration dates, so as long as you store them correctly, it’s easy to buy these products in bulk and keep on hand. While you may save money by doing so, paper goods also tend to take up a lot of room, so buying in bulk may not be ideal for those with limited storage space.

Coffee and Tea

If a cup of coffee and/or tea is an essential part of your morning routine, buying in bulk may be an important way to keep your caffeine levels up. Not only that, but the prices of bulk coffee and tea are often a lot lower than the price of equivalent products in traditional grocery stores.

Staple Foods

Rice, beans, cereal, and other foods that your family eats regularly may be worth buying in bulk. While it could save you money, it’s important to assess how much you’re likely to eat before committing. For instance, if you eat rice almost every day, buying in bulk can be convenient and affordable. If you only eat it once or twice a month, you might be better served by buying a smaller supply. Check out our recommended list of pantry staples if you’re wondering what you should keep stocked.

School Supplies

When the school year is just starting out, it’s easy to find back-to-school deals at retailers. But what do you do when you need more school supplies during the year? Club stores often offer lower prices on school and office supplies than most other stores, giving you an opportunity to restock your supplies even after back-to-school sales have ended.

Diapers

Your diaper stash can disappear in a flash. Having plenty on hand can be comforting and save you money. For many families, it makes sense to buy diapers in bulk, but we don’t recommend stocking up too much if you think your child will change sizes soon. Paying less per diaper doesn’t really matter if you wind up with a lot of diapers you can’t use! If you do wind up with extras, remember that club stores often have liberal return policies, so you may be able to return unused, unopened packages.
