Pillsbury is running a great contest! Inside every day, there’s a special moment to celebrate. Pillsbury baking helps make those e special moments even sweeter. Fans of Pillsbury baking can enterPillsbury People Celebrate More Photo Contest by submit a photo and a description of the sweet family moment.
I thought of my sister Natalie who recently called me to tell me that she made a birthday cake for her son using the Pillsbury deals she picked up at the store. This may not sound like a big deal, but Natalie has never done this before.
With her permission, I thought I would share Natalie’s story:
At one time, I believed my children needed grand and expensive to celebrate birthday’s. Something that said “Mom really loves you, look how much I spent“!
He was turning 10 and thanks to all the great deals, our pantry was full of Pillsbury products. While he was at school, I dusted off the cake pans and went for it, a double layer vanilla cake. As he arrived home from school, he saw the cake that was made just for him and gave me a sweet hug. He said “this is the best birthday cake ever. I nearly lost my breath. All this time spent on thinking “expensive” was what they wanted, when really all they needed was me. No expensive gifts, cakes, or toys can take the place of Mom using her own two hands to whip up something special.

I would just celebrate another day together! I pulled out a box the other day (Sadly, we had not made cupcakes or cake in quite some time.), and I asked my 2 year old if she wanted to make some cupcakes. She danced around singing and yelling “It’s my birthday”! Swinging her 1 year old baby brother around as she broke into the happy birthday song. I calmed her down and explained it wasn’t her birthday but we were still going to make cupcakes. Needless to say she was still exstatic about having cupcakes out of the oven when she woke from nap.
