A lot of you would classify indoor plumbing, central heat, grocery money and gasoline as ‘needs’ But wait, are they really always needs? On wash day, she built a wood fire out in the yard under a big iron cauldron to heat water to wash her clothing. Absolutely not! My Grandmother was born in 1898. She lived on a farm.

Indoor plumbing. We don’t need servants to light our lamps, wash and dry our clothing, clean our dishes, fire up the stove or stand and fan us in the summer time. We also have the luxury of having our food prepared for us. Of course, Mom let us little kids use a chamber pot at night so we didn’t get lost in the dark.

Some of the projects I’ve completed have included a custom shelving unit made only from plumbing pipes and hand-cut pine boards, lighting fixtures, picture frames that double as thermostat covers, pillows and even a hand-stenciled rug that resides in my bedroom that I happily walk on each day.
