One of the fastest growing types of business is the consignment store. The consignment store is where people who need to make a few extra bucks bring their gently used clothing, household goods, baby gear, and furniture. You can either choose to consign your own items, or you can buy consigned items from other sellers.

What I realized was that moderation only worked for me when I took a big picture approach. I used to shop the sale racks for clothes thinking I was being fabulously frugal, now I rarely buy anything in a retail environment; it’s all consignment, gift cards, or hand me downs. Not once a week, or once a month, never.

We bought a lot of our son’s onesies and other items (including a crib) at a consignment shop. A lot of sports and exercise equipment can be bought used, and work just fine. Our stationary bicycle is a used item that still works great even though we have had it for several years. Sports Equipment.

Used items don’t use up resources at the same rate, and many of them work just fine. Look for a consignment shop in town, visit Freecycle web site, or check the Classifieds before you go to the store to buy new. Our society has programmed us to look for new first. You might be surprised at what you can get. Plant a Garden.

I work really hard to find great sales for my boys clothing and I often buy from higher end consignment stores to get premium brands for less. thredUp is an online kids consignment shop where you can save money (and time!) Since I was so impressed with the quality, I thought I’d read their consigning requirements.

I considered joining Six Items or Less, but I really don't feel that I could create a work-appropriate wardrobe out of six items. I did take some clothing to consignment shops in December (ack! Then I saw this: Project 333. In this project, you choose 33 items to be worn over a period of three months. This is more like it!
