When you can reuse or re-purpose an item, you are not only saving it from the landfills, but you are also saving the expense and energy which would have been expended when you recycle. For example, if your kid has a favorite brand of cookies that are manufactured in an environmentally unsound bag, you can find a similar bag of cookies created in eco-friendly packaging. Set up recyclable bins. Make the transition to green living a whole lot easier on yourself by clearly labeling bins for recycling.

You can make dessert breads, cookies, candies, and a number of other items and give them as gifts. There are a number items now that are created from recycled materials, as well as other eco-friendly materials. We found a toy car made from recycled materials for my young nephew, and I once received a journal made with recycled paper.

Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes. Use the pulp for pumpkin bread, cookies, pies, soups and more. What do you do to recycle/reuse on Halloween? No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill. No kids = no parties or haunted houses = money saved. Buy one then sell, donate or exchange it.
