Just a reminder that Giant has two in-ad coupons this week for free 5 lb packages of matzo when you spend $50. Even if you usually ignore the Passover products, if you can get these for free, then I’m sure your local food bank and/or synagogue will know someone who could use it. (In bigger cities, there are also usually some kosher food banks.)

Great idea. Thanks for sharing Ruchama :)

I just bought some groceries at Giant, and I got a $1 off any Silk half gallon Catalina. No idea what triggered it. I didn’t buy anything from Silk in this trip.

For the gas deals.. do you have to do it with separate transactions to get the maximum gas points. For example if i wanted to buy the 8 pasta & the 8 soups do I do them separate or can I buy them in the same transaction. TIA

You can do them together

My circular also had a page of Passover deals, including two different coupons for free 5 lb package of matzo when you spend $50.

For the Dannon/Oikos deal, my ad says minimum spend must be after all coupons and savings. Does your Giant allow the savings before coupons?
jaime says
I always just let the cashier total me out, before giving coupons. That might be a ymmv scenario, but it always worked for me. I have had problems where I give the coupons before the subtotal, and the total drops below the minimum spend and the savings doesn’t come off. So it is my practice to be totaled out first then provide the coupons to the cashier.
Angie says
How do I do this at self checkout?
jaime says
I never do self checkout in these scenarios.
The coupons sometimes become an issue, but I theory you could ask the cashier to total you out and then ask that they add the coupons, if you are past the point of scanning them yourself.
Karen says
So if I’m hearing you correctly, you are saying that you are not actually paying $50 out of pocket when it says “minimum spend must be met after all coupons and savings have been subtracted from order and before sales tax has been added to order.” This is very perplexing to me because I have tried this at the self checkout and the cashier and the machines just won’t do it if you fall below the min. spend. This gets quite frustrating because I feel like sometimes the information on here is very misleading. And if you are actually not spending the minimum why do I have to. Where is the consistency? How can these stores be all from the same chain and have such a discrepency in the way they operate?
Shannon says
Karen,
There are three separate Giants — all under the same corporation, all with the same or similar deals, that all works differently, using different registers and computer systems. You need to know how your store operates and what the terms are and follow that store. Jaime is correct there are Giants (and many of them) that are before coupons – regardless of what anyone says – they work that way. There is no consistency, heck with any chain, I see it with Kroger, Shoprite and many other large chains. Unfortunately, you can only use the information we provide combined with the information you know to be true about your stores – and make your own deals. No one is attempting to be misleading or fabricate anything. I have been doing this for almost 6 years – and I could say why does a store 10 minutes away get doubles to $1.50 when my store is only $1.00 for a $.75 coupon. It just is what it is and I hope you can use the information to benefit you as much as possible – without feeling like anyone is trying to mislead you.

There is a Genuardis that was purchased by Giant a year or so ago. Their computer system is different and many coupons will beep when scanned, deals don’t work etc and most of us some of the employees are rude despite that Giant’s moto is Service First. They pulled stuff like coupons can’t be used on clearance or you can only use only 1 like coupon per purchase because they don’t understand that meaning of “1 coupon per purchase. My husband like going there so that he can argue with them, for me it is just too much stress. Interpretation of coupon policy varies by management so it is best to always have the coupon policy with you and have the number of the corporate customer service with you.
Karen says
Thank you for your prompt response. I didn’t mean to offend you. I shouldn’t have used the word misleading. Sorry.

I shop at Giant almost every day. The information here is very accurate because at all the Giant and Martin’s I have been shopped at for the last 6 years, the deals works after coupons, that’s the way their computers are programmed to work. So the wording on the fliers and what actually happens at the register doesn’t match. Sometimes there is an issue with the dollars off coming off if you purchase the required amount, this happens even before you scan the coupons. One issue is that one or more of the items on the deal might not be programmed into the computer. For example, this week there is a deal get 6.00 off when you purchase 16.00 of Nabisco products. I did the deal several times and it worked perfectly. The only time it didn’t work was when I purchased the Nabisco Chicken Biscuits crackers, the signs were up that they were part of the deal and the price was correctly but 6.00 didn’t come off. I always total my order out at the self checkout to verify if the deal worked before I scan any coupons. In this instance when the 6.00 didn’t come off before coupons, the manager checked that I did have the right products and manually deducted 6.00. I also sometimes don’t total the order after I’m sure the deal is working and the dollars off comes off after I scan the coupons.
Karen says
How do you total at the self check-out before scanning coupons? That would be really helpful to know. I can never tell until I look at my receipt if everything I planned worked out. And then I have to go to customer service to get it corrected which I have to do pretty much every trip.
Natalie says
Karen, when you use self checkout, try this:
When you are all done, answer no to “do you have any coupons”
Then get your total
You should be able to hit the back button to add coupon
This usually works for me.. I like to see that all the discounts come off right away so i always try to get a subtotal first. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much. I just did this today and it worked. Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! I feel so stupid and I could cry over all the money I have lost. But I’m glad to know it now. And my Giant did recently update their computer because the screen looked a little different and I asked the cashier and she said they had recently updated them. And in the past whenever I tried to scan the spend $50 get 30 cents off gas coupon it would never scan and I would have to give it to the cashier. But today it scanned for me. So I don’t know. I’m just pretty stoked and excited to grocery shop from now on. Thanks again!
Ruth says
Natalie’s explanation is correct. It is the best way to insure that the deal is correct. The other day when I purchase the ziploc bags, the 4.00 didn’t come off at Martin’s, when I double checked the order I noticed that 1 of the ziploc bags didn’t scan. I was sure I scanned the two bags and placed it in the bagging area, there was no prompt that scale was off with an extra item. When I rescanned the bag, it took the 4.00 automatically. It is harder to check with the gas deals so I always review my order on the screen before paying. At the Giant where I shop, there were ziploc bags with 30 ct, it was a bonus pack and had the sign that it was part of the deal. I didn’t bother to double check it when I scanned it because I had checked the price tag. When I didn’t get the 300 points, I notice that they rang up at 2.99, not 2.00, I took to customer service and switched it for the correct ones and got my points added to my card.
