At that time, I had not reviewed my own spring clothing and I have plenty of time to go back to Target if I can’t find something suitable (and cute) at the thrift store.

This year, my older daughter outgrew last year’s snow boots and my younger daughter outgrew her snow pants and there’s snow in our upcoming weekend forecast. So instead of heading to a retail store, I hit my favorite thrift store (on a Wednesday for their 50% off sale) to see if I would have any luck.

I had no problem shopping at a thrift store, avoiding restaurants, and not having cable TV, but I didn’t want to give up camping and watching my daughters’ swim meets. For us, we valued camping and our daughters’ activities. However, there were also things that we didn’t give up.

The girls and I hit my favorite thrift store this week. And my oldest daughter got her first pair of Converse sneakers. They were also hardly worn and my daughter was thrilled. As usual, I found some great deals. Both girls got new (to them) sneakers and they were thrilled. The sneakers cost me $2.50

My 5 year old grand daughter did it last year in my Grandma Rie’s Money Camp. Some retail stores do still give out gift boxes for free, always check if you are buying in a brick and mortar store. Shop garage sales and thrift stores and estate sales. Make your own gift boxes using Origami. Ask for gift boxes.

I had to chuckle when I saw my training calendar from 2004, the year before our first daughter was born. But I have seen a variety of binders at yard sales and thrift stores for pocket change. This year, I am contemplating running a half-marathon this year, so I got out my Training binder. I totally blew off my workout that day.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). My daughter-in-law came up with this idea, buying bulk pumpkins and bulk flowers. No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill. No kids = no parties or haunted houses = money saved. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.
