My daughter wanted an inventor's kit for Christmas. Turns out they do exist, but they are pricey and more than I had budgeted for Christmas this year. So I had to get creative.
I took her old metal lunch box and cracked open some old electronics and gathered up some small tools. Some of the pieces are missing from the kit, featured to the left, but it was a success.
There are a couple of things you make sure you don't let your child play with -- electronics that are leaking acids or other corrosive liquids. Play with your child and help them learn how to properly use small flat head screwdrivers, measuring tapes etc. Let them use gloves to protect their fingers and hands.
This is a great way to let them explore and create without spending a lot of money.
As always be safe with the items you let your child take a part.
