NOTE: These deals are NOT current. This is just an explanation of how Giant Gas deals work. Please do not attempt these deals as outlined, use as reference only.
There have been some questions about how you can earn free gas with the Giant Gas Deals. The best way to earn gas is to buy the Bonus Point products.
This week at Giant, there are 3 separate bonus buys to earn gas.
So this week you can earn $.90 off per gallon if you do all three gas deals once. In addition, when you spend $50.00, you get $.30 a gallon. So if you just did 3 gas deals and spent $50, you would earn $1.20 off gas. You could keep this and get $1.00 or so each week over the course of a few weeks. However, you can do more than $.90 in one week.
In the ad, Giant limits you to 10 Like Offers per household. This is tracked on your receipt. So, Giant limits you to $9.00 off total. ($9.00 off is calculated by $.30 x 1o offers = $3.00 x 3 total offers = $9.00)
Obviously, gas is under $4.00 a gallon, so you wouldn’t have to do all the gas deals to get a free tank of gas.
The Giant Gas points roll for about 4-6 weeks at time, earning free gas should be easy!
Here is an example of a gas deal in the ad this week – not including any coupons:
Buy (6) Kelloggs Cereals $11.94
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (4) Clean & Clear $12.76
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (4) Revlon Tools $8.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (4) Reach Dental Floss $10.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (4) Reach Toothbrushes $10.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (4) Stayfree Pads $10.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (4) Johnson Baby Wash $12.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (6) Rice Krispies Treats $12.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (6) Kelloggs Cereals $11.94
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallonsBuy (2) Stayfree Pads $5.00
Buy (2) Reach Toothbrushes $5.00
Get $.30 in gas points which would equal $9.00 in free gas on 30 gallons
So you are doing 10 total offers to get $3.00 off a gallon. You will also use the in ad coupon to get an additional $.30 per gallon.
- Total Cost: $99.64
- Total Free Gas with 30 Gallons $99.00(when you use the in ad coupon
So you will pay $99.64 in store, but get $99.00 worth of free gas if you use 30 Gallons. Now, this includes no coupons, with coupons that are available your total goes to $77.14 in store.
So why would you spend $77.14 in store on these items? Well, if you are going to spend $99.00 on gas, why not get all this other stuff free??
Ok, so you can only fill up 20 gallons.
Here is what your scenario looks like:
- Pay $77.14 in store after coupons
- Get $66.00 in free gas
Any questions?

thanks for this post! heres my confusion.. since i have to go to a shell gas station to use the giant and the price of gas there is say .25 cents higher than where i usually go… how does that factor in?
but does the shell discount card and the whole spin to win thing factor in too..?
i’ve been hestitant to join the gas points bandwagon ..but it does seem great if i could make it work .. just another couponing project for the week to add on =)
For the Mommas says
Katie, are you speaking of Giant PA or Shop & Stop Giant?
katie says
oops forgot about that ….i check your deals too much for stop and shop help.. since they are so similiar
=)
yup i shop at stop and shop.. live in mass.. so are the programs different?
For the Mommas says
The only difference is that Giant PA has its own pumps and gas prices are about the same as the competitors.
katie says
they actually have that here too.. but not in every area ( stop adn shop vs super stop and shop ) and i live a bit of a drive from the reg one..
but thanks.. i may just try the gas deal.. and figure out where more super stop and shops are on my different routes =)

In DE, the Super G/Giants only allow you to use up to 2200 gas points per fill up. Booo!! But, we are allowed to get up to 35 gals. of gas.

Great post, Shannon! Everyone should be getting gas points after this! ;)
Jen says
Just wondering..How are people getting the full 30 gallons?
Jen says
I have a question which I hope someone can answer. I’m new to these gas deals. I have a small car that holds 12 gallons of gas. If I do these deals, fill up and get free gas will I lose my remaining free gas (or points) or can I use my remaining points to keep filling up my car to get more free gas? If I understand, you can fill up to 35 gallons so I’m wondering about those people with small cars. Please help. Thanks! :)
Kim says
No you have to get it all at once, but two gas cans would get you up to 20 gallons.
Jen says
Thanks for the reply Kim. I don’t know why I am still so confused about this gas deal. I really don’t want to drive with gas cans. I’ve read people filling up their and their husbands cars for free and rolling points. I will have to call Giant. Thanks again!
SherrieB says
You can fill up to 30 gallons at one time, and after that first fill up you would lose those points. For instance, if you have $4.00 off gas and go to fill up, you would use and lose $3.40 off gas (or whatever gas costs in your area) the only thing that would roll is the balance of money -NOT gallons- so you’d have $.60 left over to use at another fill up (up to 30 gallons). You are allowed to use gas cans, so it might be a good investment to buy 3 5-gallon cans if you plan on continuing to accumulate gas points. You do not need to ride around with them after filling up – just put in garage, etc. I dont like dealing with the cans either b/c of the smell, etc, but they hold around $17 worth of gas and that is a lot of money (to me).
Robert says
Giant currently allows only one vehicle per fill-up but will allow you to fill up multiple cans. If you don’t want to drive with cans in your car to get free gas and use them to fill up your car with gas later (they are a bit heavy for some people), then it’s simply not worth the trouble it takes to get free gas.
Steve says
Can fill up to 30 gallons

Thanks for explaining this. It’s kind of confusing for a newbie like me. The KoP Genuardi’s is now a Giant, but the gas deals are pretty useless. We have no Giant gas station anywhere near here!! I’m pretty disappointed that they are doing gas deals at this store and not instant savings. I emailed Giant and told them so. Does anyone know if they have done away with instant savings forever??
Ruth says
The gas deal is a lifesaver. I haven’t actually paid for gas for the last few months. I have an advantage because I shop for a lot of people but everyone can accumulate at least 30 gallons a week and also save a lot on groceries.
Mel says
Each Giant has different amounts for gas points – ours only gives .10 off per gal. for each $50 spent – an extra .30 off per $50 would be great!
Shannon says
Mel,
this is a special in ad coupon this week for the $.30 per gallon, its not every week.
Kelly says
I wish there was a Giant near me. I shop Kroger and it takes all i can to get $1.00 off. This is great and I would definitely do this if I could shopped at Giant. thanks for all your help
Lisa says
I think you worded this wonderfully, and explained it very easily. I’ve tried explaining it to my friends and family, and even my mom, who goes with me shopping every week, still goes, “Well how do you mean its free?” And i just sigh. Ha! Thank you for all you do with this site, you are very helpful!!
Kelley Brandt says
If I buy 12 kellogs cereals would I get .6o cents or do I have to do them separately 6+6 to get .60 cents. Does that make sense?
Shannon says
Kelly, you can buy 12 together! This was just to break it down very simple :)
Kelley Brandt says
thanks for letting me know!! ;)
