You may have heard about the health benefits of eating fermented foods but you're not sure how to get started making them yourself. You're in luck. There will be a free Fermentation on Wheels class tomorrow at the Painted Shovel in Avondale at 2 p.m.
Fermentation on Wheels is a nonprofit organization dedicated to food awareness and the preservation technique of fermentation
Here are some details provided by Painted Shovel:
Instructor Tara Whitsitt will discuss fermentation basics, including sourdough bread starter, kefir (a cultured milk product), and kombucha (a naturally carbonated tea).
Tara will work out of a former school bus, which doubles as a creative kitchen and workshop space. Attendees may bring cultures of their own for exchange & discussion as well as bring an empty jar and take a culture home from the workshop. Tara will also teach & prepare a wild ferment with local, seasonal ingredients.
