Sometimes couponers get a bad wrap – you know, hoarders, shelf clearers, greedy. For most of us, it is not the case. Most couponers I know, are extremely generous.
All You encourages our community to use their couponing skills to help others, or Coupon for Good. In March, they’ve partnered with Champions for Kids to create a simple service project focused on helping kids by Couponing for Good. (Check out the video above, you might recognize someone)
Champions for Kids is a terrific organization that mobilizes communities to improve the lives of kids and families all over the country. Every month, they suggest a different service project to benefit children.

Great Video! I’m sooo excited between this week’s tootbrushes and pantyliners and last week’s RG deodarant, I found a local woman that sends care packages to the troops I cannot wait to give her a large box of goodies!

My sister and I donate hygiene kits to help local foster kids. Many of them are removed from homes without anything. A local charity provides clothing, hygiene items and toys to caseworkers for these kids. Once a month, we take in around 12 hygiene kits ($30 value) and 10 cosmetic bags ($15 value). We would never be able to donate this much without using coupons. Neither of us have families of our own so we really don’t need a huge personal stockpile, but you’ll find us doing the drugstore deals weekly for these kids.
I hope you realize, Shannon, that the help and tips you provide to couponers are far reaching, as we use these skills to help others! Thank you!

Brenda that is so awesome and thoughtful! Such simple items make a huge impact!

I loved seeing this. We have just been able to start donating to our local food bank- this would NEVER have been something I could have done without the help of this site and livingrich- Six years ago, my husband was unemployed and I remember looking into our cabinets and saying, “that’s it. This is the last meal. If something doesn’t change, I don’t know what we are going to eat tomorrow”. I wound up getting a surprise check from some internet gig (I was savvy enough to figure some of that stuff out, but never to the scale you see here).
I used coupons, but it never occurred to me to buy more than one paper, or to buy food at a drugstore on a deal, or to really stack a deal. At the end of each pay period, I would play a game….which do we need more, milk or bread? What can i live without?
We made our first trip to the food bank last week, and the women clucked over what we brought…toiletries, make up, chapsticks, canned veggies, cereal, and she said, “oh, honey, you are going to be a popular girl this week!” I wanted to cry.
But looking around, i saw a lot of food, but no meals, kwim? I keep saying I’m going to take a break from couponing, but now, I feel like I need to keep going to have more to donate. It’s very empowering. We’ve been back, and the kids want to go back more.
Once again, thanks for all you do. This site and Cindy’s have REALLY changed our lives.

Donating is such a rewarding hobby. Years ago I wouldn’t have looked at a coupon. I was naive in thinking they were for poor people and I didn’t want people to look at me as being poor. I may have been a little self-centered back in the day. For the past 3 years appr. I have been couponing and I feel those who coupon are the smartest, wisest people. I find it hard to believe not everyone does it. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner. I created a small stock pile for a couple of years for my family and one day it dawned on me I could do so much more. I send donations to the school nurse every month. We are in close contact and if I see a freebie deal coming up I will ask her if the school can use it.You would be surprised with what the school can use, the list goes on and on. There are needed things from Kindergarten through High School along with Special Needs classes and After School Programs to field trips. The reason I chose donating to the school is because as a young girl from a poor family, it was donations that helped me get through my awkward teen years. So now it is my time to give back and through the use of coupons I am able to do that! I find many of me freebies, rebates, and rewards at Walgreens, Menards, and Office Max with many in between thanks to sites like forthemommas. I bribe my friends from work with special freebie days in exchange for their coupon inserts. I have a few people who faithfully give me their inserts every week and I will give them small (freebie) tokens of my appreciation.

Shannon,
I love doing this type of thing. I’ve been getting free or $.50 toothpaste for months now, and have been giving it away to my neighbor who has 3 sons, and is trying to survive on very little income. I love giving her and her boys food and toiletries I get for free. The other day I gave her Easter candy, and she hid it from her smallest boy, knowing that she could give it to him for Easter from the Bunny. :) It made me happy to give her a little joy.
Shannon says
Aww Linda, I smiled reading this.. Those little things , the free candy might not mean much to you or me, but its a big deal in that situation. May you be blessed ten fold.
