8 Cleaning Tasks That Can Be Done While You Snooze
I used to always feel as if there isn’t enough time in a day to do all the cleaning jobs. But, now I assign all my cleaning as per the schedule and leave some tasks to be done overnight. Have you ever wondered if they were tasks that could be done while you sleep?
Yes, there are. Here are some cleaning jobs you can accomplish while you snooze.
1. Clear Your Showerhead – Showerheads are a breeding ground for bacteria. Soak your way to a rejuvenated showerhead. Fill the bag about halfway with white vinegar, then insert the showerhead into the bag. Secure it with the rubber band or bands, then gently turn on the water to the shower just enough to fill the bag the rest of the way and mix up the solution. Try to clean your showerhead at least once a month.
2. Soak the Burner Plates – Put the grates in a large resealable plastic bag and add 1/4 cup of ammonia. Seal the grates and ammonia together in the bag and make sure it’s tight. Leave it alone for 10 to 12 hours. Then rinse with water. Ammonia’s volatility means the fumes can easily leak through small holes and stink up the house. You don’t need to soak it in ammonia, it is the fumes that dissolve all the grease.
3. Dry the Dishes – You can save about 15% of your total dishwasher’s energy, by allowing the dishes to air-dry. When the load has finished washing, turn the dishwasher off and open the door a crack to let the dishes dry. This keeps available heat inside but allows the dishes to air-dry.
4. Descale a Kettle – Descaling is the process of removing limescale, or scale, from the areas of your appliances that come in regular contact with water. Fill the kettle with a mixture of half white vinegar and half water, and leave to soak overnight. (Make sure the kettle is unplugged).
5. Clean bath toys – Kids’ bath toys are at risk for mold growth as they come in contact with germs floating around in the bathwater. This could cause illness among the little ones. Mix one-gallon warm water with ¾ cup vinegar. Soak the toys overnight. Give them a scrub once and rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry. Wash kid’s toys once a week.
6. Remove stain from pots and pans – You can fill the pot and pans with hot water or fill them with warm soapy water, adding a small amount of baking soda to the mix and let them soak overnight then wash the pots and pans in the morning. Soak the cookware in saltwater overnight, and then boil the mixture the next day to remove burnt stains.
7. Remove stain from Clothes – To remove some of the stains on clothes, you might need to leave them soaked overnight. Go here for help to remove all type of stains.
8. Deodorize Your Garbage Can – Plain old baking soda is a do-it-all wonder that we need to always have in stock. Apply baking soda on all the inner surfaces of your trash can and leave the lid open to air out overnight. This will absorb the odor. Or, sprinkle baking soda on the bottom before you replace the trash bag lining. You can also pulverize charcoal and let it sit overnight to remove the odors.
