Just a chat with Kay Robertson of Duck Dynasty + see her Sunday at BJCC

For 16 summers

has made the six hour drive from Monroe, LA to Gulf Shores, AL. She and her family make the journey to the sugar white sands and warm gulf waters without Phil for annual family vacation.  "Phil doesn't like the beach," Miss Kay, as she is affectionately called on the show, said from West Monroe during a phone interview yesterday. "He says if he's in the water, that means he fell out of the boat and he doesn't like to sit in the sun."

Miss Kay will visit Alabama once again this weekend to share her love for her God and her family during the Southern Women's Show Sunday at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex exhibition halls. Robertson will take the stage at 1 p.m.  She shares, "I've just started going out on my own for speaking events, I usually go with Phil, but God took away my fear of speaking in front of people. No matter what, I want to share my testimony and I love to take questions from the audience."

Friday I had a chance to chat with Miss Kay and her oldest son Alan Robertson during a 7 minute phone interview.  True to Duck Dynasty form, she and her son picked on each other and laughed about her answers to my rapid fire, fill in the blank question format.

Quick Q&A with Miss Kay:

Q: Favorite book of the Bible and why?

A: "My favorite verse is Philippians 4:13 but my favorite book is James because of my work with a lot of women.  I always tell them to read it first because it gives them comfort.  Also it helps me control my mouth."

Q: Favorite food to cook or eat?

A: "Homemade peach cobbler, and my recipe will be in my book coming out in November."

Q: Favorite kitchen appliance or tool?

A: Kitchen Aid mixer, cast iron skillet and my book of recipes.

Q: What's your morning routine like?

A: Every morning I like to sit and pray out on my porch with Bobo and JayJay (her dogs) look at the trees, hear the squirrels and birds.  It's as if God is waiting for me to wake up and enjoy the trees and animals.

Q: We know you like to cook but do you have any other hobbies?

A:  I like to paint when I have time.  I used to paint with oils but now since I don't have much time I use acrylic paints.

{Alan interjected that her paintings are quite good and they might need to feature that in an episode.  I asked she had ever sold any and she said 'Heaven's no!"

Q: What do you think about seeing yourself as a bobble head?

A: I don't think they captured my full-figureness but I think it's funny.  My hair is longer now and I think the bobble head needs more eyebrows but I like it.

Q: What has been a blessing from the success of the business and show?

I do love that I can help send ladies to Christian women's conferences that wanted to go but couldn't afford the trip, or support orphans and missionaries. It is a joy to help people.
