This is your 2023 comprehensive Guide on How to coupon at Walgreens. Whether you are a new couponer or an experienced couponer, you will find tips to save more money on your next shopping trip.
A quick note before we dive in: Walgreens’ couponing and loyalty programs are fairly complicated. To help you, we have broken the guide into 2 steps:
The first step is applicable to new and casual couponers.
The second step is for experienced and extreme couponers!
Our suggestion is to take your time to understand how the savings work at Walgreens. The beginner steps also give you 60-70% of the overall maximum discounts you can get. Of course, the pro steps using multiple coupons and promo codes, etc can get you some products for no money or close to it.
So let’s dive in.
Step 1 is to join MyWalgreens, the Walgreens Loyalty program
You need to sign up for the MyWalgreens loyalty program as the first step. You can join for free on the Walgreens website. You can also join in the stores or via their mobile phone app available on the Android and Apple App stores.

Step 2: Coupons and Rebates that can be used at Walgreens
Walgreens Digital Coupons
All of the Walgreens app coupons are digital coupons. Manufacturer coupons are listed in the “Shop & Savings” portion of the app. Tap to add one to your order. Clip a digital you see now, even if you don’t need it now as the coupons are usually available to clip for a limited time. So, if you clip a coupon when you see it, you will be able to use it till its expiry date even if the coupon is no longer available in the app to clip. You can also find Walgreens digital store coupons in the weekly ad. These coupons are also called “Load to Card” coupons (L2C), these are coupons that need to be loaded to your store loyalty account by tapping on them in the app or clicking on them on the website.
Walgreens print coupons are normally available in a booklet in their stores. And of course, these coupons can only be redeemed at Walgreens stores.
Walgreens Paperless Coupons
Walgreens Paperless Coupons are electronic digital coupons that you can clip directly to your myWalgreens account. You can save offers directly to your myWalgreens account from your mobile phone using the Walgreens app or at walgreens.com/coupons from your computer. Walgreens paperless coupons must be clipped and attached to your MyWalgreens account prior to, or at the time of, purchase in order to be accepted. To redeem paperless coupons at checkout, you can either enter the phone number on the pinpad or have the cashier scan myWalgreens Digital Wallet code.
Manufacturer Coupons
The major online coupon distributors are Coupons.com, Save, Hopster, and SmartSource. Manufacturers also distribute coupons from their websites such as Kellogg’s, P&G Everyday, and more. The FTM Coupon Database has the complete listing of every printable and newspaper coupon available. If you’re looking for a particular coupon, be sure to check the FTM Coupon Database so you get the maximum savings for your favorite brands.
Sunday Insert Coupons
The Sunday Inserts are another decades-old traditional coupon source. These have lost popularity over time with the proliferation of online coupons. However, they are surprisingly active still. You can find information on the upcoming coupons on our site. Typically Save and SmartSource publishes coupons as part of the insert. You can print select P&G coupons via pgeveryday.com.
Rebate and Cashback Apps
In addition to the manufacturer and store coupons, you can also use cashback apps. These include apps like iBotta, Checkout51, and Fetch. You need to load a picture of the receipt into the specific app. The cashback is then loaded into your online app account.
You can use both the store/manufacturer coupons along with the cashback rebate apps. Sometimes, you can get a product with cashback in your pocket! That is called a Moneymaker deal. We regularly post these deals on our FTM Walgreens Store Deals page on our site!
As shared before, Walgreens has a somewhat complicated program. It is because there are many different ways to earn discounts and savings. In addition, the program does change on occasion, so you need to access the Coupon Policy.
Step 3: There are 2 Reward and Savings Programs at Walgreens
These 2 programs are Register Rewards and Walgreens Cash.
Register Rewards:
Register Rewards (RR) is the original reward system offered by the store. Unlike other programs at Walgreens, this one does not require a membership card to participate. These rewards are essentially dollar-off coupons that are generated at the register when you purchase specific items.
It’s important to note that the items that generate RR rewards and the value of those rewards can vary from week to week.
You can find this information in the Walgreens Weekly Ad. This makes it easy to plan your shopping trip around items that will earn you RR rewards.
One of the best things about RR rewards is that they are not tied to a specific item. Unlike manufacturer coupons that are specific to a certain product, RR rewards are a dollar amount off your entire purchase. This means that you can use them on any future transaction, regardless of what items you purchase.
Overall, Register Rewards are a great way to save money at Walgreens. They are easy to use, don’t require a membership card, and offer flexible savings that can be used on any future purchase.
Walgreens Cash
Walgreens Cash, previously known as Balance Rewards Points, is a reward program associated with your account. It allows you to earn and redeem cash for future transactions.
You can earn 1% Walgreens Cash rewards for every $1 spent and 5% Walgreens Cash rewards for every $1 spent on Walgreens branded products.
To help you earn even more Walgreens Cash, there are two types of promotions available –
Quantity-Purchases
With Quantity-Purchase promotions, you will earn a specified amount of Walgreens Cash for purchasing a specific number of participating items.
Threshold-Purchases
Threshold-Purchase promotions require you to spend a specific amount of money on participating items to receive Walgreens Cash.
These promotions are advertised in the Weekly Ad or are listed on the participating products in the store.
It is important to note that for Threshold-Purchase promotions, you must meet the dollar amount after any Walgreens coupons have been applied.
You can’t redeem and earn Walgreens Cash in the same transaction for Threshold-Purchase promotions.
Conversely, you can redeem and earn Walgreens Cash in the same transaction for Quantity-Purchase promotions.
Unlike RRs, which have a 14-day expiration, Walgreens Cash lasts much longer. It expires one year (12 months) after the day you earned it, and you must shop at least once every six months to keep your account active. If your account goes inactive, your Cash will disappear.
You can easily check your Walgreens Cash balance by looking at the bottom of your receipt or logging into your account on Walgreens.com or from the Walgreens mobile app. To redeem your Walgreens Cash, simply inform the cashier at checkout that you would like to use your Cash on that purchase. You can redeem Walgreens Cash in varying increments and there is no limit to the amount of Walgreens Cash you can earn.
Additionally, you can earn Walgreens Cash for participating in certain activities, such as walking, quitting nicotine, exercising daily, and more, through the myWalgreens Health Goals program.
In case your rewards are not issued, you can contact Walgreens customer service to get them credited to your account.
Step 4: Coupon Stacking, Moneymakers, and other fun stuff
Walgreens accepts print and digital manufacturer coupons.
You can find these coupons in the Sunday newspaper insert as well as from printable coupon databases and other sites.
Walgreens will accept one manufacturer coupon per item, up to four identical coupons per household, per day.
When purchasing multiple items, Walgreens accepts up to four like coupons for multiple qualifying items.
A maximum of one manufacturer BOGO coupon, whether paper or digital from Walgreens.com, can be used for two qualifying items in a BOGO offer.
You can use a promo code and manufacturer coupon on the same order or item.

Step 5: Weekly Ads
Walgreens puts out their Walgreens Weekly Ad which lists products on sale next week. The weekly sales run from Sunday to Tuesday. The Weekly ad flyer is available in print form as well as online.
ForTheMommas.com publishes the early Walgreens Weekly Ad of next week’s sales on Wednesday prior to the start date. Go through the details and circle the products you want to buy.
The advance publishing date also allows you to compare the prices for products during the week and next week.
Step 6: Walgreens Coupon Policy
The details of Walgreens Couponing Policy. It is important to understand it so you know exactly what you need to do for big savings!
Summary:
