Anna's Linens ends 'Fooled Ya' ads after domestic violence outcry, apologizes with coupon

Anna's Linens has pulled the plug on a series of television commercials that portrayed angry husbands venting about how much their wives spent on home decor. The punch line is, I fooled ya.  I got them at Anna's.

The commercials and a website

sparked a social media storm for the retailer with shoppers complaining about the insensitivity or callousness of the commercials for victims of domestic violence.

To squelch the complaints, Anna's pulled the ads and ended a corresponding sweepstakes. In it's place, a 10 percent off coupon.

Anna's posted this apology on their Facebook page this evening:

We hope you understand that it was not our intention to disrespect or offend anyone in any way with the Fooled Ya commercials. Please accept our apologies, and know that we are no longer airing the commercials or moving forward with the Facebook contest at this time.
