Gift Ideas On A Budget For Teachers
Updated and republished
Finding budget gift ideas for teachers is very hard, especially in tough times.
I have heard from a few people looking for budget-minded Christmas gifts for teachers. I know that teachers prefer to receive items like gift cards. But I also understand that many of you are working on a limited or no budget.
So what can we gift them? And I don’t mean yet another “Best Teacher Mug”.
There was a great suggestion on Facebook I wanted to share. I think this is a GREAT idea if you don’t have the money to buy a gift.
Nicole said that many teachers have to buy supplies for their classrooms.
I quickly made this basket from items in my stockpile. This is a GREAT budget gift idea if you don’t have the money to buy a gift.
Items you might want to include in the gift basket:
- Hand Sanitizer
- Gum
- Post It Notes
- Pencils
- Pens
- Notebooks
- Lysol Wipes
- Tissues
- Sharpies
- Crayons
- Hand Soap
- Lotion
- Glue Sticks
You can use a basket or a tote.
These were all items I had on hand.
You can also add a $5.00 gift card for Amazon, a coffee shop or a bookstore. This may not be the perfect gift, but it is something that can be done easily.
No matter what gift you decide to give the teacher, the most precious touch will be a handwritten appreciation note, preferably on cute Christmas stationery.
Teaching is a hard and stressful job. So, we can never thank teachers for all that they do for our kids. But we can definitely show the teachers how much they mean to us and the kids this Christmas.
There are a ton of additional great budget gift ideas here on Facebook – check out over 75 suggestions.

This is a terrific idea! I always felt teachers required more appreciation than they always get. They put so much of themselves into their work, and leave a real impression on our children. A great gift, also, I think, is a personalized wind chime, on which you can engrave names dates and personal messages. I think a personal gift is always a great choice, especially for people who take such a personal interest in our children, and make such a difference.

A great reason to stock up on Staples deals in August-September even if you dont personally need the items. You can make a much nicer gift than you thought when you shop you’re own stockpile. I love the addition of gum/mints!

I am a teacher and I would love this as a gift or anything similar. Paper towels, notecards, and expo markers would be a great items as well depmeding on your stockpile. By this time in the year our classroom stockpiles are almost empty.

I am currently an administrator in a building where teachers have access to supplies and don’t need to buy them. My most memorable gifts as a teacher that I received were bath and body seasonal hand soaps (#Something I wouldn’t buy myself); Beautiful handmade ornaments, or fleece scarves and/or gloves (Since I Had recess duty). Old Navy was selling fleece scarves for one dollar on Black Friday last year.
Most teachers have their own home or apartment, so don’t forget household presents too. Walmart clearance after christmas includes spoon rests, calendars, and Lowes recently sold poinsettia plants for 99 Cents. Hope these ideas help!
