You're peeling bananas wrong

STOP! Before you peel that banana from the stem down let me show you a different way to get it done.  However before I give you the instructions let me tell you how this will make your child's life and your life easier.

My 6 year old loves bananas and likes to take them for lunch. When I first started sending bananas for lunch he would return that afternoon with an uneaten banana.  A couple of times of not paying attention to the fact that he didn't eat it and repeatedly sending bananas and getting them back each afternoon I finally asked him to explain. He said he couldn't get it open at school.

So now I need a new approach for him to be independent and that's where this method, used by monkeys everyday, comes in to save the day.

Open the banana from the bottom instead of the stem.  Who knew? Now my kids do.

Bananas are much easier to open from the bottom rather than the stem. Depending on the level of ripeness or lack of ripeness you could be in for a fight when you attempt to peel.

Here are three steps to peel a banana the right way:

1. Flip the banana upside down

2. Pinch the bottom in the center of the brown tip.

3. Pull down the side and repeat.

Did you know the inside of the banana peel can relieve the itching of a mosquito bite? Go here to see my mention of that trick.

Tell me do you like your bananas slightly green, mostly green, no green, yellow or yellow with brown spots?
