The East Lake Arts District invites you to join us for this annual storytelling and memorial for our very own resident ghost known as the Child of the Lake or the East Lake Mermaid this Sunday, October 30th from 5:00pm until 6:30pm. On the night before Halloween we light candles, jack o’lanterns and toss carnations into the water to appease her spirit. Story telling of the murder of little May Hawes who became the East Lake Mermaid will be told by local historian Terri Hicks in ten minute intervals and will run continuously as guests arrive. Find us set up near the entrance of the East Lake boardwalk gazebo in the south central area of the park. If we are lucky we will see a sighting at dusk since she is said to swim close to Larius Island that is in the middle of our lake. Carnations will be available for a nominal fee and all proceeds will go to the East Lake Arts District. The East Lake Park is located at 1st Avenue North and 84th Street North. |
