Wonderful Wednesdays 2014

Who knew Wednesday could be so wonderful? Every Wednesday, enjoy a special program about Bellingrath Gardens and Home, gardening, local history and nature. Wonderful Wednesdays at Bellingrath is the perfect place to bring a friend and spend time among 65 acres of blooms!
Gardens Admission ($12.50 for adults & $7.00 for children 5-12) is charged for non-members attending programs unless otherwise listed. There are additional charges to tour the Home. Call 251.973.2217 X 111 for reservations.

Summer Garden Walk with Dr. Bill Barrick, Barbara Smith and Chuck Owens
Bellingrath's horticulture experts will lead a tour throughout the Gardens and answer your questions about plants in the floral borders and containers for the summer season. 10:30 to 11:30 Reservations Requested

English Decorative Arts Within the Bellingrath Home with Tom McGehee
Architect George Rogers described the architectural style of the Bellingrath Home as "English Renaissance." He carefully chose elements, including a Georgian staircase and Adam mantelpiece to compliment Mrs. Bellingrath's collection of British silver, porcelain and furniture. Following his presentation there will be a special tour of the Bellingrath Home to see these English treasures up close. 10:30 to 11:30 Reservations Requested

À Table Mes Amis! - French Service in Nineteenth-Century New Orleans with Carolyn Bercier
Ms. Bercier is the former Deputy Director/Curator at Hermann-Grima/Gallier Historic Houses in the New Orleans French
Quarter. Those two historic house museums reflect how well-to-do Southerners lived during the middle of the 19th century. Her presentation will cover the popularity of service à la française (French service) in New Orleans during the 19th century as opposed to service à la russe (Russian service) where dishes were served in sequence. 10:30 to 11:30 Reservations

Join us for a special two part program and learn how to grow and maintain summer blooming bulbs that will survive our humid, hot summers. Kids Gulf Discovery Day with the Winged Ambassadors, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, Mobile Baykeeper and More!
Grab the kids and join us for a morning filled with activities and displays and learn about ecology of the Gulf of Mexico and the Fowl River basin from area experts. Winged Ambassadors will feature trained free- flight Birds of Prey including sacred falcon, turkey vulture, black vulture, red tail hawk, great horned owl, and a Russian owl that was featured on the Walking Dead. These birds of prey are trained to perform on command and to show the important roles these birds play in supporting the ecosystem. 9:00 to 12:00 Reservations Requested

Back by popular demand, Virginia Boehem will show us how to grow beautiful Ginger Lilies along the Gulf Coast. She will discuss a number of varieties and will have many for sale, too! Our hot, humid Gulf Coast summers can be tough on people and plants. Dr. Barrick will share his observations on summer annuals, tropicals and perennials that not only survived but excelled in the Gardens during the summer of 2014.
