Naturally, my spouse and I had a discussion on how much we wanted to fund for our two sons and their families. I found pleasure in thinking about giving our children and grandchildren the opportunity to see part of the world they might not otherwise see. One son is trying to rebuild finances after an expensive year.

Even the New York Times acknowledges that: As boomers join the ranks of grandparents, many are financing vacations for their children and grandchildren. My WWII era uncle and his wife made trips annually with one of their 4 grandchildren (a different one each year). We took my Mom with us to Florida in the 1980’s.

For our 40th wedding anniversary, we chose to take our adult children and our grandchildren on a vacation to Yellowstone National Park. Perhaps it isn’t either of you that wants to renew, but your sons and daughters (you know, that generation where half the marriages end in divorce) think you should renew. We watched.
