to Grandfather’s house we go; . I’m pretty sure I always sang it as Grandmother’s house, which is weird since we actually went to my Grandfather’s house for holidays. As the early cooking is going on, we watch Miracle on 34th Street, a movie about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

It never occurred to me to ask Mom or Mom-in-law to come watch my kids. Seeing the joy of discovery on a child’s face or watching them learn a new skill or develop a new talent is just plain fun, no matter the cost in money or time. Expectations of our children. We raised our children to expect more involvement.

That observation brought back the flood of stories she and my grandfather told about coming to the US from Cuba with no money and starting over in their late 30s. What inspired you to get debt free?
