It never occurred to me to ask Mom or Mom-in-law to come watch my kids. I’ve seen the nieces and my own kids ask for and get babysitting services time after time from a busy working boomer. In my experience, my kids expect more of me for their kids than I expected of my parents for mine. It’s just fun!

As the early cooking is going on, we watch Miracle on 34th Street, a movie about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We still watch in horror as they try to prove that Kris Kringle is not the real Santa Claus and applaud when he is declared so by the United States Postal Service. By end of the day we all suffer from carb coma.

My niece goes to Goodwill and buys what I can only describe as bags of junk, and she makes a full-time income selling it on eBay. Dining out, fast food drive-throughs, and Starbucks all have to stop.
