Have you tried price matching at Walmart? I headed over to Walmart to give price matching a try. Just a few things you should know about Walmart Price Matching.
Walmart will price match:
- Competitors’ ads that feature a specific item for a specified price.
- Preferred shopping card prices for specific items that are in a printed ad.
- For fresh produce and meat items when the price is offered in the same unit type (lb. for lb.; each for each)
- Will not honor- Items that require a purchase to get a competitors’ gift card (UPR, ECB, RR) *Note- some of you have reported different results with this.
Although, I had taken each ad with me, with the priced matched items circled, I just needed to tell the cashier the price at each store. She matched them with no problem.

PS – Someone left a comment regarding why would I even consider Walmart, when the grocery stores will double the coupons? Well this is why – see above. It is a 46.8 round trip to Weis, Giant and CVS. Those are the exact stores I visited the other day – so I would need to get atleast save another $11.00 -which in this scenario Natalie did, I would have saved just $.25 more using the Land O Lakes Coupon at Giant. In addition, Giant won’t take my BOGO free coupons.
The math:
It is 2 miles to Walmart. My car gets 15MPG give or take, so I saved 44 miles of driving or $11.67 in gas. Walmart price matching CAN be used strategically for people who do not live near major supermarkets or drugstores.

Today was my first time price matching at Walmart. I took an Aldi ad in and my cashier price matched the produce, no problem. I got pineapple half price and over $1.00 off each: cantaloupe, strawberries and carrots. I saved a bunch and intend doing this again. My CVS and Walgreens is on the other side of my town, so yes, it makes sense to use Walmart. I proved it today with this price matching.

If you are getting 15 MPG you are probably driving one of those awful ugly SUV”s that really do not fit in if you are trying to adopt a frugal lifestyle.Dont’ know why women here are so crazy about these hideous things on the street.

Hmm, well you are incorrect first of all. Second, my car was purchased used and in cash. I own one car and drive about 8,000 miles a year. I wouldn’t consider that wasteful. It happens to be a bit older and not so great on gas.
Ya ever think that people might drive larger cars because their family cannot fit in a smaller one? There are many people who drive larger cars out of necessity – no need to be rude.

I’ll start by saying that my hubby works for Walmart, but in my experience any time I have problems with them they will make it right. You will some times get a cashier or csm who isn’t well educated on their policy and may have to spend extra time getting them to check with someone else and find out that you are right. Their policy does specifically say that you don’t have to have the competitor’s ad with you, but if you have it you may save yourself some time. Any time you have problems with walmart I recommend you call 1800walmart and make your complain that way, they’ve always been good about getting back to me when I go that route. I’ve had issues with one store’s tire lube express being closed when it shouldn’t have been, it turned out the store manager didn’t even know it hadn’t been opened that day. I got a phone call back thanking me for letting them know and a discount when I went back to get it done.
Like you said walmart can be great when you have to travel farther to get to other stores, I also like to spend my coupons that are too high in value to double at walmart.

Walmart is always a nightmare when I ask for price matching at least the one close to me,it always takes like 20 more minutes more to check out the cashier has to ask someone and etc.,most of the time I jut save myself the aggravation.and they would not take coupons on prices that you are matching.

We went to Walmart in December hopeful to get the ever so popular Skyrim X-box game of which everyone else was old out. That item was on sale at another store just days before Christmas for a mere $39.00 (usually costing $59.00+). When we arrived, the locked case was chuck full of them. My partner said don’t bother, they’re probably not price matching since there are so many.Armed with my persistence and very high hopes, I asked the employee to unlock the cabinet and retrieve one of those games. He immediately took it to the register. I had my ad and said I would love to get this price matched. The cashier began ringing and then quickly called for an approval to override the price. The walkies weren’t working and the shoppers were impatient behind me.My cashier announced to them to be patient and that if they were in line saving $20.00 without a coupon they too would wait until the purchase was completed. You should have seen the mouths drop and how many people tried to see what I was buying and how I was saving.I smiled, thanked the patient cashier and CM, then exited the store knowing I was making my son happy as that was the only item of which he had asked me for and I simply could not get my hands on one until that day. Oh how I fell for those who rushed out to grab them at full price. Oh how lucky I found myself early that Sunday morning. It never hurts to just TRY price matching.

I’ve had nothing but trouble with Ad Matching at Walmart. The sales flyers no longer get delivered to my house so I have been bringing in the shopping list print-outs that are offered on all major supermarkets’ websites. It will list the sale price, item, size, dates the sale is good for etc… One cashier took forever ringing me up. He had to keep finding a manager to find out if he was allowed to do the transactions. And even the manager didn’t really know the Ad Match policy. And then I tried to ad match a buy 1 get 1 which is allowed if the price of one is stated in the ad, but they wouldn’t let me. They said they don’t do buy 1 get 1 of anything. I explained that that was incorrect and I was advised to go to Cust. Serv., but I was already late getting back from my lunch break. I was so annoyed that I emailed Walmart’s cust. serv. and I never heard back from them!

FYI – As per Walmarts website Price Match Guarantee you do NOT need the ad for them to price match. I tried it and it worked. I told them the price of the item at Food Lion without an ad and the cashier typed it in without questioning me. They give me a hard time when I use coupons though. They scrutinize them.

Price matching at walmart is so easy. Any cashier can do it, just make sure you bring in the ad. Also target will price match if you have the ad, but you have to go to customer service to do it.

That is awesome! I never knew they did that. My mil only shops at Walmart. She goes other places when I talk about really good deals. She always picks up 4.0 oz toothpaste when it is on sale for 1.00. She says they have it on sale every month. Even with a .75 coupon, she only pays .25. I haven’t gotten it that cheap at my weis store. If they price match, it becomes even more appealing to shop there.

That’s awesome!! I’ve been price matching at walmart on specific items and wow have I saved some money!

I price match for the same exact reasons. We have Wal Mart, A local chain grocery store, Save A Lot & Aldi’s in town for grocery shopping. So it makes more sense to price match at Wal Mart than travel a minimum of 20 miles away just to get a better deal. I do shop those other stores when I am in the area and plan trips there when I’m going that way anyways. I find that most the time, I’m never asked to see the ad’s anymore, even though I take them with me. And some cashiers even know the best prices on things at other stores and will just give you the price without knowing {maybe this is just at the Wal Mart in a smaller town and those few who are trying to save money themselves and just wanna help others}.
Shannon says
Yep, same deal here, mine doesn’t require the ads either.

I price matched a Toys R Us smartphone coupon once. It was Guitar Hero bundle pack for $14.99 and of course, Toys R Us was sold out in minutes. I went straight to the service desk and just asked if it was within their policy to pricematch an ad you get off your smartphone when you scanned the circular. They agreed to do it since I asked, and was able to snag the bundle for my daughter’s birthday. I’m not a Walmart fan but the one near us is very coupon friendly and willing to go an extra mile for a customer.
Shannon says
Evelyn,
I remember that great deal! Good job.

our walmart is so convenient for me also, they have the a branch of the bank we use in it, mcdonalds (or subway) depending on which in our town i go to.the one i usually go to is next to a dollar tree and across the street is our target. i can literally park in the walmart parking lot and walk to the others.
Shannon says
Nice Roda. Saves you time and gas.

I price matched once at Walmart – grapes at 0.99. Save about 3 dollars, not a big deal but it was super easy.
For The Mommas says
Hi Alena, this is Natalie from FTM. A $3.00 savings for grapes is a great deal!

I work right across from a giant. So, if I need to do multiple transactions, I leave early and go before work, during lunch and after work. (there are usually only 1 or 2 registers up and running at those times of day, so I don’t hold others up) But I rarely make a trip just to the grocery when I’m off of work. I can’t imagine 45 miles round trip! Even if the deals are super awesome.
Twila says
I tried price matching at our Walmart once, but then they wouldn’t let me use my coupons. They said if they price match they can’t accept coupons for those items. I decided I’m better off to shop the sales at Weis and Giant and have my coupons doubled. Has this happened to anyone else?
Karen says
hi Twila, it happened to me too, i even showed them the coupon and ad match policy but the Cashier, CSM and the Assistant Manager still insisted that according to their policy, its either you price match or use the coupons which was not indicated in coupon policy nor the ad match policy…. so what we did because i was really upset, my husband emailed Mike Duke CEO of walmart, telling him what happened and he really indicated in there that instead of saving up we ended up paying more and he also question him whats the purpose of going to walmart to do price matching but can’t use coupon at the same time where we can just go to the store who has the better deal… After a few days, a ZMS from walmart called me she apologize about what happened and told me that they do accept coupons on price matched item and ask me to go to the store, bring the coupons and they exchange it with cash. later we learned that, Mike Duke called the store manager and gave them 24 hours to fix the problem…
Shannon says
WOW Karen, I have to say that is impressive on Walmarts part.
Rondale says
can you please give me Mike Dukes email address? Thanks
