Eating From The Pantry: Frugal Shake & Bake Green Tomatoes + Dipping Sauce

Another garden freebie mixed with free groceries.  My dad shared some green tomatoes from his garden. (A project he had this summer with the grandkids)

The crop is plentiful.

I'm not big on frying.  I can do it but I just don't like to.  I don't know, I'm weird.

Anyway -- I really wanted some fried green tomatoes without frying them.

Several weeks ago I scored a box of

r free when you buy fresh chicken.  It was a peelie on the box.

So I grabbed it.

I've never used Shake & Bake before but the directions are simple.  Wet the product with water, drop it in the provided bag and shake.

So I did that.

Water wasn't working though with the sliced tomatoes.

So I made an egg wash and it kept the Shake and Bake on the tomato slices.

I had several slices and then placed on a cooking tin.  I baked for 20 minutes at 400 degrees.  (According to the box)

They were pretty good.

The sides weren't coated that well but it was fine.

For the dipping sauce I used Philly Cooking Creme Sante Fe.  Perfect!

I wouldn't call my recipe professional but it was frugal and tasty.
