Fun Freetime: WITS Board Game

Since the pandemic took hold of our lives, sales of board games, card games and jigsaw puzzles soared more than 370% as families stocked up on in-home entertainment to avoid lockdown apathy and fatigue. Without doubt, this holiday season brings new thought to gift giving as the heightened need for a digital detox hits us all, and the attention towards post-pandemic catch-ups fuel board game boom

Resurfaced from a 7-year hiatus, What Is The Sentence (WITS), previously known as Sentence Says, is the perfect educational game to play with friends and family members this holiday season. The award-winning board game is an exciting and entertaining board game that promotes family fun along with helping students develop critical learning objectives. For adults, there are more challenging versions of the game, making it a great option for any age of play.

I had a chance to review a copy of the game. It was fun - especially if you like word games. It worked well even with the different levels of ability between my kids, husband, and myself - and my mom really enjoyed it as well. It definitely did add an educational element to fun, and was a great addition to our homeschool day.

I had a chance to learn more in this interview.

How do you create games that are educational but also fun?

When I think of a new game, I first write my concept down and search to see if it is already on the market. Any idea for a game can be the next great thing. I encourage anyone working on a new game or product not to diminish or reject their idea before it gets to market. As I said, your game or idea needs to be original. It needs to be simple to understand and easy to play. It also should not take a long time to complete a game. The final element that I believe is required for a successful game is that it should be addictive and cause the players to want to play it repeatedly. My future goals are to continue to create games.

Why is it important for families to have non-screen entertainment?

It is important for families to have non-screen entertainment because it builds character and bonds that provide the ability to adapt better to situations as a family. In addition, excessive screen time is associated with several health issues including obesity, depression and anxiety which can impact sleep patterns. A board game, (WITS), will get you to use critical thinking, logic and also have fun along the way.

What makes board games such great gifts?

Board games are great gifts for anyone who wants to spend time with family and friends. It’s also a great way to disconnect from TV, cellphones, and tablets.
