We were poor, Mom and Dad lived every day showing us what it meant to ‘make it do’ and we often ‘did without’ Here are my thoughts on frugal ways to make things do. I grew up with this, in theory and in practice. Take care of your wardrobe to keep it looking work and wear worthy. Buy good clothing, used.

The truth is, there are plenty of things our grandparents and great grandparents did that were eco-friendly and frugal that we can easily do today. So often, being environmentally friendly and saving money go hand in hand. That’s good for the Earth and for personal finances. Hang clothes to dry. Make your own laundry soap.

Sure I knew about the ‘White sales’ – the ones stores used to have in January on sheets and towels and such, but I really hadn’t a clue that there is a best time to buy many other things! However, I wait until spring and summer to buy decorations – and get them at garage sales. I know I do. Winter clothes.

Today’s grand-kids are notorious for being glued to a screen. Spend less, and pry the kids away from those screens by doing some of these activities to build face time with yours. These are the times they will remember, long after they have forgotten who gave them that video game they love to play! Hold a grandparent camp.
