Most telephones were on a party line (and yes the parties did ease drop on each other, but they also let us do ‘conference’ calls). On the other hand… there were no drones, stoplight cameras, computer virus problems, identity theft, angst over credit ratings, amber alerts, full body scanners to enter an airport and etc.
