3 – Set your guidelines for the year. I had no problem shopping at a thrift store, avoiding restaurants, and not having cable TV, but I didn’t want to give up camping and watching my daughters’ swim meets. A leaky roof was one of the priorities to give you an idea. We said NO to a lot, and that isn’t fun.

There is an initial investment, but I have seen similiar containers at yard sales or thrift stores and at Bed Bath and Beyond where they regularly offer 20% coupons. Guidelines for 2016: 1. Choose Thrift First. I have made a pact with myself that if I don’t already own something that I need, I will either: make do with what I have, find said item at a thrift store, borrow, or forget about it. In other words, I’m coming up short. Make it a Necessities Only Year.

Our business is considered essential, so we have remained open, but at a reduced schedule and following CDC guidelines. On Friday, March 13th, the PA Governor shut down schools and closed non-essential businesses. The Pandemic hit our state and country. It wasn’t always fun or easy and we had a fair amount of envy and FOMO.

The Guidelines for 2018: 1. While I love thrift stores, I can be easily swayed to run into Target, TJ Maxx, and/or Kohl’s when I feel like I need something. I’m curious to see how much we can save and also how creative we can get by making do with what we already own or looking for things at a thrift store.
