I am excited to share this new tool that you can use to help you make choices. Making choices in the grocery store doesn’t have to be as quite as overwhelming! The new Facts Up Front is the most significant reform on food and beverage labeling in more than 20 years.
Key Facts about the labels:
The Facts Up Front label shows calories per serving and information on three nutrients to limit in the diet: saturated fat, sodium and sugar.
Labels may also have information on one or two nutrients that Americans need to get more of as part of a healthy diet. These “encouraged” nutrients will only appear on a package if the product contains 10 percent or more of the daily value per serving of the nutrient and qualify as a “good source,” as defined by Federal government regulation. So for example, the Facts Up Front label will only display calcium as a nutrient if the food contains at least 10 percent of the daily value per serving of calcium and qualifies as a “good source” of calcium
The number of products carrying the Facts Up Front label in the marketplace continues to grow as companies work through their different production and distribution schedules. So far, more than 50 manufacturers, retailers and wholesalers are voluntarily implementing Facts Up Front on their branded and private label products.
Facts Up Front is a great tool that you can use to make informed food choices to help you build a delicious diet.
