Healthy Habits: America’s most stressed states

New research has revealed the most stressed states, with West Virginia coming out on top.

The study conducted by addiction specialists at Diamond Rehab Thailand analyzed the latest data from the United Health Foundation’s American Health Rankings to see which states had the highest rates of people reporting stress in their lives. It was measured on the score of frequent mental distress, which describes the percentage of adults reporting to have suffered from mental health issues more than half of the time. and frequent physical distress, which refers to adults reporting poor physical health more than half the time.

It found that West Virginia had the highest rate of mental and physical distress, thus making it the most stressed state. The eastern state reports that 17.5% of citizens suffer from frequent mental distress. 15.8% of citizens also suffer from frequent physical distress, the highest of any state, giving the state a stress score of 99.16 out of 100.

Kentucky comes in second place, with the Bluegrass state receiving a stress score of 96.98 out of 100. This is due to 17.4% of citizens suffering from frequent mental distress and 15.2% of citizens reported to be suffering from frequent physical distress.

Coming in third place is Arkansas, which makes it onto the list with a stress of 94.94 out of 100. 17.8% of citizens reportedly suffer from frequent mental distress, which is the highest amount of any state, but 14.2% of citizens suffering from frequent physical distress brings it down to third place on the list.

Louisiana takes fourth place on the list, with a stress score of 91.21. 17.6% of residents in the southeastern state suffer from frequent mental distress, while 13.2% of citizens suffer from frequent physical distress.

Rounding out the top five is Nevada, which receives a stress score of 90.68 out of 100. This is due to 17.3% of citizens reporting frequent mental distress and 13.3% of citizens reporting suffering from frequent physical distress.

Commenting on the findings, a spokesperson for Diamond Rehab Thailand said: “It’s understood that stress can have many causes, especially in today’s times, whether it be an increased cost of living nationwide, work or family related. It’s interesting to see how many of these ‘stressed’ states are in the south of the US, with more northern states overall seeing lower stress levels.”

This study was conducted by Diamond Rehab Thailand, a respected drug & alcohol rehab in Thailand that will provide the tools, guidance, and expertise needed to make a life-changing transformation.
