Of course, I want the best deal possible, so I went scouting to see what I could learn about getting the best deal on a rental car. Choose the right car for your needs. Usually, if we fly somewhere and then rent a car, we just get the smallest (least expensive) type available. Here is what I found. Rent by the week.

I bought these after our bags got stolen from the trunk of our rental car in San Francisco when we were, literally, 50 feet away having tea. Now, I use these for my laptop, headphones, car keys, etc. These little guys just plug in and you plug your charging cord into it and it blocks your personal info from getting jacked.

The holidays are great! We get to celebrate our religious beliefs, take time off from work, consume holiday treats, relax with family and friends, and carry forward special yearly traditions. However, the holidays also bring the double edged sword of trying to control our spending and our weight! You know they are coming.

Avoid holidays and peak travel times when prices can be inflated. Another cost to factor into flying is whether or not you’ll need a rental car when you arrive at your destination. Having our own car means we don’t have to rent one and we can bring a LOT from home. It’s too risky. We almost always drive!

I was diligent about doing that again this year and have made $497 and change so far, and that’s before my holiday shopping! I order office supplies, tickets, hotel rooms, rental cars, etc… Some of these companies offer as much as 5-10% cash back, which is a sweet chunk of change. See my post on this HERE.

Our rental season is pretty much limited to 2 weeks in June, all of July and 2 weeks in August – sometimes with a holiday or two thrown in. I was counting on an average of 4 months rentals. Rental management companies may not distribute rental days evenly. Do you have a vacation rental?
