It’s that time of year, you know, time to dust off the Christmas ornaments and stocking. We always get our tree on Black Friday and get it decorated that weekend. It is a tradition that we look forward to every year.
Each year I have had a bare mantel, with two sad stockings. I learned from my friend Myra, that I didn’t have to spend a ton of money to have a gorgeous mantel. I just needed a few essentials.
A few simple tricks I have learned:
1. Add a ribbon. Garland is pretty, but a ribbon makes it special.
2. Use Christmas tree ornaments as decor. Instead of buying things made for the mantel, be creative.
3. Don’t over do it, less is more. Many Christmas items are sparkly, shiny — don’t go overboard with the sparkle and shine.
4. Pick up one focal piece. It doesn’t have to be super expensive, but one quality piece will make a difference.
5. Choose timeless pieces. Don’t go to trendy or you won’t be able to use it for the next 10 years.
Hopefully you will think outside the box this year when decorating – remember, it doesn’t have to be expensive to be gorgeous.
