There have been several questions about the Target Coupon Policy. Target changed the website recently and some of you have not been able to find it online. You can print the Target Coupon Policy online here.
Here are some key points from the policy:
• Target accepts one Manufacturer Coupon and one Target Coupon for the same item (unless prohibited by either coupon).
• Item purchased must match the coupon description (brand, size, quantity, color, flavor, etc.).
• Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.
• We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.
We do not accept Internet coupons for free items with no purchase requirements.
buy one get one free coupons (BOGO):
• BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free). Unless stated otherwise on the coupon, the use of one Buy One Get One Free coupon requires that two of the valid items are presented at checkout of which one item will be charged to the guest and the 2nd item will be discounted by its full retail price.
• A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed towards the purchase price of the first item.
If a Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon maybe used on the first item.
If a Manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.
This is what is currently on their site. If there are any changes to this, Target has not published them online.

While a lot of what is being said on this site could be true.. Target does have a large number of stores in several countries. I work at just one. I just scan the coupons and the computer accepts them. There have been several times where the computer accepted the coupon even though it violates either the manufacturers rules or Target’s rules. I accept it anyway. Not a big deal. But when the computer rejects the coupon something is usually seriously amiss. I am all for couponing but you “literate” people clearly miss when it says things like “with the purchase of TWO” when you bought one item. Or there are people that go through with toothpaste coupons and state that toothpaste is the same as tide laundry detergent. 99% of the time, people using coupons can without incident. It’s the people that buy 10 things and then give me a stack of coupons that DO NOT MATCH what they are trying to buy that I have a problem with. That’s called SCAMMING. On a side note, big box stores spend a good amount of money on asset protection staff and equipment… Perhaps you have gotten away with scamming the system before but they are just collecting evidence against you. Look at the black bubbles in the ceiling… Those are cameras. Maybe one day when you get a court summons, you will understand.
Lambchop says
Target coupon policy.
1.) 1 Target coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon per item per transaction. The value can not reduce the purchase price below zero. Scanning 2 coupons for an item, the second coupon will be rejected if that coupon’s value reduces the price below zero.
2.) Target reserves the right to limit the purchase quantities to quantities that “a normal size family would use”. We reserve this right to control inventory levels at each Store so all guests have an equal opportunity to purchase said item.
3.) Coupon transactions take more time to process because of this we limit the number of coupons per item per transaction so that we can help all of our guests have speedy transactions.
4.) Target does not have to take any coupons other than our own. We take manufacturer coupons as a benefit to our guests not because we are getting wealthy from it.
People who use coupons need to realize that what they see as getting “free” items are only free to them. Nothing is free in this world everything has a cost. The cost of excepting coupons are: the labor to receive, process at Store level, process at sorting business, redemption at the manufacturer, the loss in Brand reputation from the 95% of our guests who don’t use coupons and expect their Target transaction to be cheaper, fast and friendly. Making these guests wait costs the company money; just hiring more cashiers costs more money which increases prices for everyone. If you as a coupon user want to get “free” items then you should be willing and able to spend your own time getting back in line to complete multiple transactions because everyone else’s time is valuable not just what you want. Finally, coupon fraud is a $500 million a year criminal enterprise. It is the manufacturers responsibiliy to create a coupon system that is fraud proof however they are not interested in doing that.

Target doesn’t allow coupons on free items. Its not specified, but its obvious when you think about it. They won’t allow 1.00 off .97, so 1.00 off a free item would be contradicting. Recently management at my store received calls and e-mails about coupons from corporate. They have decided to now enforce that coupons have to be followed to a tee. If it says no more than for per shopping trip, then don’t expect more than for four even if you divide the transaction. Some stores in my area are taking it literally because of scammers.

omg, i was just excitedly printing target coupons and i then looking up the policy but now idk if i want to go there either. this all sounds like the woman at the walmart in hilton head who FREAKED out on me and my hubby for getting poise pads free. I had $3 off coupons and they were $2.72 and i even grabbed a chapstick to cover the overage i would get and shes like NO IM NOT DOING THIS CUZ THEN WE OWE YOU MONEY. NOPE IM NOT DOING IT. im like lady you are getting reimbursed the full $3. geezus christ. we called the mgr out in the parking lot who in turn did the transaction. im just shaking my head.

Was at Target today and the manager said I couldn’t use a coupon for an item that I was getting a gift card for. I wasn’t getting the item free I still had to pay money after the coupon was deducted. I told him that the gift card is separate from coupons. It worked plus the policy says nothing about not being able to use a coupon on an item you will be getting a gift card after purchase. He was wrong. It is true where ever you shop you will find inconsistent managers, cashier who make up policies as they go. It is usually a good idea to bring policy with. It is not the consumers fault if a manufacturer has a good coupon available at the same time a store is having a sale on an item.
NiaLee says
I just went to a Target near my job in Atlanta. When I asked what the coupon policy was for the number of like coupons in a transaction no one could give me a definative answer. The cashier asked how many of an item I wanted to buy and I told her I just wanted to know the policy. She said it depends, if I’m trying to buy 10 of one item they “may” only let me buy 5. I think they make up the rules for coupons as they go too. Ugh.

Maybe someone can help me. I received coupons in the mail from Purina for free products (they are not internet/print at home coupons). Will they give me trouble for using them (reading all your experiences make me a little nervous)? Anyone tried to use ‘free item’ coupons at target??
Marina says
Target does NOT take coupons for free items. It also usually doesn’t take coupons that give unreal savings (like more than $20 off anything). I once tried to use a $30 off coupon for a video game for my son, and they wouldn’t accept it because they thought it was fraudulent. The cashier didn’t even scan it – he took one look, went to the manager, and the manager told me that it was fake. I think that they should at least scan the coupon, before going straight to the conclusion that it’s fake. (by the way, the coupon was a manufacturer’s coupon, and it was e-mailed to me, but I’m pretty sure it was real)
Nicole G. says
That’s not true. Target does take coupons for free items. I’ve had a number of valid, sent from the manufacturer coupons for free items & I’ve had no problem redeeming them at Target. I’m not calling you a liar, but it seems pretty odd to me that a manufacturer would email you a coupon for $30 off a video game…that IS unreal savings & I’d question the validity of that coupon also. That being said, I AM a couponer & an avid target shopper…I usually just try to scan through all of the cashiers to see who I think will be most “coupon friendly.” I haven’t had any problems at my local Target, but there is one cashier in particular that I try to avoid because she never seems to know what she’s talking about.

Good Heavens. If you read all these comments you have to see why the cashiers/managers/stores get frustrated with the consumer. I am a Walmart cashier. I was laid off almost 3 years ago from a high paying professional position and unable to find a job as I live in SO FL one of the worst places for unemployment. Do not assume that we are all vapid, ignorant peons. I work with others like me and who have a higher education than me as well. As far as couponing, KNOW THE POLICY. I know the store policy, but yet when I ask 5 managers if we take certain coupons I get 5 different answers. I get rude, downrite neanderthal types who get very aggressive when challenged on the coupons. One thing everyone needs to know: STORES DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE COUPONS, TAKE BACK MERCHANDISE UNLESS RELATED TO A RECALL, GIVE CREDIT OR ANYTHING ELSE THEY DON’T WANT TO DO UNLESS COVERED BY STATE OR FEDERAL LAWS. This is all a courtesy, so when some tries to cheat the system and claim we have to take this coupon/price reducation or whatever, it makes all of us who use coupons and price matches (including myself) look bad. Cut the employees a break, you may have to be one of them yourself someday.
Chase says
Most of these people aren’t trying to cheat the system.
If you can’t even obey and understand the coupon policy from the store YOU WORK AT then maybe you should look in to working in the fast food industry.

I just wanted to say that Walmart has always been good to me and I love the cashiers there and the management. It is so much easier to be patient when you don’t feel like you are being scrutinized by the staff and that it might just be because someone is new.
Target on the other hand is a mess. Walmart is CONSISTENT, Target is not. Every manager has their own policy, one says yes the other says no and most scrutinize EVERY SINGLE WORD on the coupon.
I’m sorry for you having to deal with the people who get irritated. Maybe if you remind them you are not Target you can both get a good laugh out of it. :)

TARGET is the worst place to shop anymore. Every negative comment about TARGET on this site is soooooo TRUE. This store has absolutely no consistentcy when it comes to there coupon policy and they appear to make up the rules as they go. My last trip to TARGET was my final trip. They are clearly the rudest, insulting, individuals I have had the displeasure of dealing with. You are all so right about the coupons, they are pissed because its time consuming for them and they don’t seem to like it when anyone can save money. Here’s the best part, anytime I had gone to TARGET to present there OWN COUPON, there systems would never take there damn coupon but OMG alert the media because of it. That’s when they start going through your entire purchase and dig through bags to see if you acutally purchased what was on there COUPON that there system didn’t take. How pathetic is this. It’s time to take out a FULL PAGE ADD in any NEWS PAPER and let the public know how rediculous this store is. I will never shop at TARGET again and neither will my family, friends, becuase they all use coupons too and have had the worst experiences such as everyone on this site. They SUCK!!!!

I went to my local Target today, tried to use a $1.50 coupon for Axe bodywash, no size restrictions, to buy a travel size at .97. I had 8 of them. The cashier called over her supervisor who stated that I could not purchase more of any item than I could personally use/consume, and that they would not honor a coupon which contained a discount greater than the item price.
Irina says
That is right on their policy, they can not give overages. Neither does Walmart. Walmart will apply the overage to the whole purchase or give the difference on a gift certificate.

Uhhhhh…..how can a person that doesn’t work at Target get team member perks? Sounds like fraud. I bet coporate wouldn’t approve of this. That is an employee perk. Sounds to me like certain Target cashier’s are taking bribes. If a Target cashier gives special discounts to certain people because those people will give some of their freebies to the Target cashier, that is BRIBERY! Sounds to me like some of the Target employees are the scammers that are costing the company money.

Btw, target has crest pro health toothpaste on clearance for 2.08. In this week Sundays paper there is a $1 target coupon and a $1 manufacture. Plus the box comes with $13 worth of coupons and a white strip.
In targets break room there are monthly Red magazines. Last month had $5 target Dr. Schols and free crest tooth paste coupons. If you’re nice and honest and build up a good rep at your local store, you might be privileged enough to get team member perks. The customer i mentioned earlier who treats our staff well gets those mags, targets monthly coupon books, tm discount plus manager $3 off coupons for any purchase. She ended up getting a $400 dyson vacuum for less than $200 because of a 40% off Red mag coupon, team member discount and her 5% rewards card. I scan her coupons without reading them because she knows her stuff. If a cashier is wrong don’t make a big scene just go to guest service. Request a manager if they say no, but don’t act crazy because you’ll forever be known as the crazy coupon person that tries to get over.

Does your store manager know that it is against the rules to share employee only coupons or discounts?
Who were you saying was breaking the rules?

Like most people on this thread, I came here looking for the Target Policy because of the bad experiences I had at my local target. Two weeks ago I went in to use my covergirl coupons. Target had a $2.00 off two Covergirl coupon that I could stack with my $8.00 off two Covergirl manufacturer coupon. The cashier was extremely rude to me. She told me that the coupon couldn’t exceed the total, so she changed the total on the coupons. I was ok with this, because it is their policy and it was my fault for not being aware of this rule. The second issue i had was my Vasaline coupons. I had a “Buy One 24oz or larger Vasaline and get a free 10-13oz” Well, Target had their 24oz Vasaline bundled with a 13oz. So I took on of the bundled ones and a 13oz to her and handed my coupon. She wanted to argue with me that I couldn’t get the second 13oz because there was already a free one attached to the bottle. She finally asked a manager and that manager said it was fine. When she came back to the register I asked her what he said, she responded “He said it was ok but I’M going to look into it.” I have no problem following the rules, and if what I am trying to purchase is not invalid then I will not argue. The problem I have is the rude behavior and being treated like a thief for using coupons. In addition, my friend was purchasing almost the EXACT same items and had NO problems. Her coupons were not altered, she was not given any issues, and her cashier was not rude to her.
Then, the following week I went back for some more make-up. This time I made sure my two items would total over $10 so there would be no issues. This time I was told that the coupons were only for SPECEFIC covergirl items (even though I just purchased the same items, with the SAME type coupons, the week before. From the SAME cashier!) It is very frustrating for me! I am NOT trying to steal from your company, I am NOT trying to swindle you or pull a fast one on you, and I don’t even mind you looking over my coupons with a magnifyer to make sure I am following the rules and all my coupons are legit. I just want to be able to save money and not feel like a criminal for doing it. I’ve decided that if I EVER shop at Target again, I will get with a manager before and make sure my coupons are going to be accepted.

I found this website hunting for the Target coupon Policy. I went to Target yesterday and was told I couldn’t use my coupon I had for ink because it had a walgreens symbol on the side even though the coupon cleary stated “Manufacturer coupon” on it! The cashier told me it was a Walgreen Mani!! LOL, But what are you supposed to do when they think they know what they are talking about?
Lauren Again says
The reason I found this page is because within
a few weeks of each other, two shopping trips were
completely different about their policies.
The first time, I used 4 $1 off NOS and 8 $1 off Gatorade Prime.
No questions asked. The guy was actually good looking, kayyy.
Target had a clearance on Buddig for $.33 a package.
My coupon was for $.55 off two packages.
First, the man wouldn’t let me use more than ONE of the
Buddig coupons, called over manager, she said same thing.
Coupon did not have any limitations besides DO NOT DOUBLE.
I guess me getting clearance meat in packages that expire in three months made them jealous or somethin..
They sure wanted to ‘lay down the law’..
I had ten coupons. They were legit.
They held up the line. Not me.
They said, “SEE! IT SAYS DO NOT DOUBLE!!!”…
So, they proceeded to dig through my nice reusable shopping
bags and find their Buddig they so desperately wanted back..
They let me use four P&G coupons though.
Morons.
Also, the same transaction, after the manager left about the Buddig..
I had two Revlon tweezers at say, $2.25 each and a coupon
for $5 off two Revlon tools.. He said, NOPE CAN’T DO IT.
‘That would be like me paying you to take it out of the store’
..Didn’t know how to reduce coupon either.
I never have shopped at Target because I’ve always preferred
Walmart over Target. Coupons are the ONLY reason I go there.
If they’re going to be stingy, law making (WHA-CHHH!), anti-coupon,
cashiers who act like THEY are the computer that decides
whether or not to let us use the coupon, then I won’t go back
until I start seeing progress from Target.
They are lucky to have us shop there in the first place.
PS- Walmart > Target.

Goodness gracious, of all the places I coupon, Target is, hands down, the worst! I went there with some coupons and used them on trial sizes, about four bags of dishwasher detergent. The manager had to be called over and she informed me that I could only use “one coupon per purchase”, as the coupon stated. I tried and tried explaining until I was blue in the face that “purchase” means item, not transaction. She informed me that if I wanted to use all four of my coupons, I was more than welcome to exit the line, re enter at the end, and use another coupon. There is nothing more annoying to me than when I know a store’s coupon policy better than the MANAGER! I understand that stores don’t want to lose money, but with coupons, they pretty much break even. It just seems to me that some workers are just plain angry that we’ve figured out how to save money.
Lorna Doone says
I love when people try to bully or whine to get there way. The cashier’s job is to make sure the coupons are legit. And used for the correct items. It is amazing how people will try to justify their fraudulent behavior.

There are honest people that use coupons and I one of them. I try to return or exchange two boxes of hair coloring after talking to the manufacture about them. I couldn’t use them. I purchase them with part coupons and part cash. The manager look at me, than the receipt and said it was not charge to the credit card. She said that I didn’t paid for it, therefore I will not get any money back, but I can leave the items .That was a lie. So I ask for an exchange, she said fine, but I have to paid for it in full retail because I don’t have any coupons. That not fair, but her answer was you didn’t paid for it. So I ask for the difference plus sale tax minus the coupons. She started screaming at me by saying you people coming in here taking money that don’t belong to you and I don’t know how you where able to purchase the items in the first place because that transaction should never gone through. My answer was that it was charge to my credit card. Now I have an audience. With her yelling at me in so many words calling me a thief and being escorted out by security. I call corporate and they acknowledge the mistake and indeed I did paid for the items and I was entitle a refund. That’s not the point, I was called a thief in front of my locate Target shoppers and being call you people (Asian) or couponer don’t know. Maybe she single me out thinking that I don’t understand English and insist that it was not charge to my credit card, but I can leave the items without a refund. I have kids in the middle school and high school and I do fundraising for many charities in my community. Now I suffer anxiety attacks and not as active in the charities.
Chase says
Lorna, no one is being fraudulent. Laura is exactly right. One coupon per purchase means per item purchased.
I thought everyone knew that. I guess I was wrong.
I find it funny how most of the people calling everyone thieves and fraudulent on here are actually Target employees.
Read a training manual or something, please.

I went to Target today and had the most horrible experience ever. I was kicked out of the store because I tried to use the $10.00 off 2 products of Olay Regenerist or Pro-X from the Sunday Paper. Actually I had more than 20 similar coupons which I get from Tiempo Latino Newspaper a newspaper that is free around my neighborhood, because it is a Spanish newspaper no many people take it so I take many for the coupons inserts. Once the manager saw that I had more than 20 items and I had coupons he came by around the cashier and stop everything because the coupon stated that you can only use 4 coupons per trip and 1 per transaction so I though he was only going to to void everything and allow me to buy 8 products and use 4 coupons. No, that is not what he did, security came and kicked me out in front of everyone. The manager kept looking at the coupons and he didnt tell me they werent legitimate or anything like that, because they werent. He voided a previous transactions I asked for my coupons back. They gave it to me and I was taken out. I even asked him if I Could pay for other items I had without coupons and he asked security if I could do that and he said no to the manager and I was taken out. I didnt know Target security had power over the store manager. I drove to another Target to see if there was a red flag on me, because I am a couponer, I have for a year now because it became a project wish I will report on at the end of the year. I asked the manager at this other store, what is going on? Also I took with me a stack of more than 25 newspapers which I have in my car form this week coupons and showed him from where my coupons are coming from, which is beyond what I should do. He told me he will make sure that doesnt occur to me anymore. Also there is a $3.00 off any care item – Pro -X or Regenerist product Mobile coupon which expired today and it didnt work at 2 stores so the manager at the second store called Costumer Relations at Target and they said that it was a computer mistake and that the stores couldnt really over write it. The coupon becomes false advertisement and I took it all the way to corporate office. One important fact is that I asked the manager of all these stores to document the situation and provide their names and none of them did it. They only told me to call costumer relations. I think is time for a law suit for false advertisement and for accusations of coupon fraud which by the way was never said to me but actions speak louder that words.

I just read, and re-read, Target’s coupon policy, and there is absolutely no mention of not being able to use multiple coupons for multiple purchases of the same item.
I called the comment hotline, but I have to wait until a weekday to call back.
So even if they really DID change the policy, it’s not indicated on their current website, so I am totally in the right. Grrrrrr.
I’d accept an apology, and some free coupons.

I found my way here b/c I was looking for the “new” Target coupon policy. I buy coupons in bulk off ebay, and I’ve never had an issue with using multiples when shopping. I went to Target the last 2 weekends to stock up on cat treats. Unfortunately, the stores didn’t have enough for me, but I was still able to get about 10 each time.
Tonight, I went to a different Target, and at the cashier told me that I could only use 2 coupons (one for each item). I’d finally found a target that was stocked up on that specific treat, and I was buying 33 of them. I was floored when she said this to me. I told her that I have done this many times, including last week.
She told me that this was a new policy, and that the other Target workers were wrong for taking multiple coupons. This is the first time I was prohibited from saving money at Target, and I am just livid. I want to see this in writing, but I’m still going to try to address this issue to the company.
I need to stock up and save money wherever I can. I know I’m taking this personally, but I’m pissed that Target, of all places, is prohibiting multiple coupons.
I just had to vent somewhere. Thanks.

Target will not allow more than a “family size” for any purchase – regardless of coupon usage or not. Typically this is about 8 to 10 items of the same thing. Your purchase of 33 cat treats more than likely cleared the shelf and does not allow for others to purchase as well. I know this was commented on quite a while ago, just thought I would get the info out there. Cashiers are just doing their job as instructed, no one is trying to screw you over.

Has anyone ran into this problem? I was at target today and the lady was checking EVERYTHING and she told me I was only allowed 6 of the same item. Because I needed to leave some for the other customers. I was just getting cat treats and actually I only got 4 of the same type of cat treats but because she saw I had 12 bags of them in my cart she said I could only have 6 even though they were different brands.

I was irritated even after venting here and reading comments. I picked up the phone to try my local store again and wasn’t able to reach a manager.
I called the above number where the Target representative gave me a reference number for my issue, which was couponing, and explained in detail what to do with issues at the store. 1) She said Target stores are to scan our coupons, if they do NOT go through that’s when they should read them. 2.) If it doesn’t scan, the employee should then, AND ONLY then investigate the issue.
Ladies, if you keep having problems call to get a reference number so you don’t have to keep having problems. While I agree with respecting an employee, we deserve respect using coupons and I hope our line time goes quicker. :)

By the way, excuse the typos. Im on a treadmill right now. Honestly, if my comments aren’t deleted again, ill give the complete coupon policy from the target manual.
Chase says
Can you please tell us how you know that using a coupon on a trial sized item is wrong, if the coupon does not state anywhere on it that trial size is excluded?
Do you call each manufacturer and ask them what their policy is on that specific coupon?
Just because you know the Target coupon policy does not indicate that you know the policy of every manufacturer in the United States.
Some companies actually want you to use a coupon on a trial sized product so you can sample it and possibly purchase a full sized product, which in turns gets them new customers.
While I believe you know the general terms of the Target coupon policy I am sorry to say that I think most of your ramblings are just assumptions.
As I said, please indicate how you know when a coupon is not intended for a trial product. Do you not think that a manufacturer would think about this before printing thousands, if not millions of coupons?
target cashier was censored says
Lol i love target, i actually had made a comment saying i got several toothpaste free with target coupons and manufacture coupons and donated them. I also went on about how people were literally receiving thousands a month in coupon scams. I explained targets complete policy on coupons, not this revised crap, but some how all three comments were deleted. I guess the truth isn’t popular with couponers. Im far from ignorant about targets policies and manufacture policies. They do not make dollar off coupons for trial size, but retailers accept them when its not specified to avoid arguments. They aren’t paid for that believe it or not. I mentioned how one customer gets special treatment at our store and how others should do the same. She uses coupons correctly and respectfully, plus she donates to team members and others. She’s given our discount which gives the full ten percent off transactions before coupons are counted. Target doesn’t get profit from overage. Each store loses millions from coupon scams. People return for coupon value or go to several stores using “missed coupons” at guest service for the same items. I can’t remember all that was said, but Im amused and amazed by the censorship. I didn’t say couponers were bad people, hello i shop with them, but the illiterate ones and scammers are irritating. Many left target, including i, because of the stress that goes with ignorant customers. Cursing college/hs over a coupon you read wrong? Pathetic
Shannon says
I will not approve any comments with profanity – so you aren’t being censored – if you choose to use profanity on this site in any form, the comments are automatically sent to spam by the filter. So, Cursing as you said in this last comment is pathetic and your last comments had profanity.

Hey, margaret and Karen, how can you insult the cashiers for clearly doing their job after reading targets policy? That policy posted is the same one ive been taught since starting there two years ago. Target doesn’t do overage and manufactures do not make $1 off coupons for trial, not trai coupons. Because of it not being specified, you annoying coupon users take advantage. Target Will not be paid back for improperly used coupons which is why they don’t do overage all together. I also adore coupons and any customer who does it correctly, but people like you two annoy cashiers and customers. We’re required to examine each coupon and item thoroughly to make sure target isn’t taken advantage of. Believe it or not there are people making thousands monthly off target and coupons and cashiers are let go because of it. Families left uninsured so you can get free items?! Im all for couponing but do it correctly and respectfully . No one wants to ring up or stand behind the person trying to make $300 worth of groceries into $50.

I do not care if people do not want to stand behind me while I make my purchase. I am a stay at home mother because I cannot afford to put my children in child care, so if im able to use coupons to reduce my grocery price I am going to do so. Coupons are there for a reason.

If I had not started couponing when I did my husband and I would not been able to by food…… I lost my job and he lost his…. It took us 8 weeks to get money started … If target doesn’t want my buisness I can go some where else.!!!!! And I have!!!!!
When you save money people get jealous because the could figure out how to do it!

If we can’t use certain coupons on Trial sizes, the coupons will clearly state it right under the description of the item. There’s no reason to carefully examine each coupon for 2 minutes per coupon unless the cashier is lacking in literacy and can’t comprehend the English language clearly. I’ve run into a cashier as such but luckily not at my Target as of yet. I understand there are certain rules that need to be followed because I was a cashier as well once but to take up so much time just to make sure each item is accurate is very time consuming and can get aggravating for both customer and cashier but well worth it if it’s a good buy.

Target policy HAS changed in two years!
Target does get paid the whole amount on the coupon as do all other stores. So yes, Target keeps the overage!
As far as your claim on the trial size,,, read the coupon. If the coupon does not exclude trial size then why should you?
Scan then bag!!!
I Love Target says
I agree with Felicia…it should take 1 or 2 mins to read each coupon..that’s crazy.
@Target Cashier…since people are getting let go and cashiers are getting frustrated with doing their jobs…how about you all set up a couponing seminar to teach all cashiers how to take coupons, the lingo and how they are supposed to look. So now if they get let go it’s on them because they been taught. I’m sure their are some swindlers out there but you always have to be one step ahead of the swindler..that in any business. Also, don’t be mad someone is using coupons getting stuff for free or nearly free just key in the transation and move on to the next person. My purchases, my money situation and coupons shouldn’t concern you. If I worked at Target I’d be using my employee discount…coupons and red card if I could. Don’t hate..join in!

The coupons can be used on trial sized items just as long as they do not say it excludes trial sized items! Target is just getting out of control. Every time I try to use a coupon there, they are rude and disrespectful!

I to am a stay at home mom because my son was born with severe medical issues and we can’t afford to have anyone watch him. We are barely making it. My family would not eat had it not been for coupons. My family has tried to do what we thought ethical and responsible and use coupons to buy our food and personal items instead of having taxpayers pay for it. Shame on you target cashier for being so rude to all of use who are trying to make it in this difficult economy. Majority of us coupon shoppers do use the coupons as it is stated and many of know the coupon policies. If target truly doesn’t want our business then we will shop and spend the little money we do have elsewhere!

I was at Target yesterday and I think they’ve made more changes to their coupon policy . You can still use one store coupon matched with one manufacturer coupon for the same item…but apparently now you can only use one set of these per transaction for the same type of item. I had printed two of the store coupons to match with two manufacturer coupons for my favorite hand soap (as well as other coupons). The checker said they had changed their policy and I could only use one set of the coupons per transaction and showed me where it now says this on the target coupons (It is printed there…i just missed it since it’s new). So I had to separate out my items and pay separately. I ended up having to split my purchases into 4 different transactions to use all my coupons.
The only way I think it will negatively affect saving at Target will be on those sales that are buy so many and get one free. I had printed three of the Pepsi coupons off the Target website because they had buy three and get one free (I didn’t try to use a coupon for the free one). But because you can now only use one store coupon per purchase of the same item per transaction I couldn’t get the deal.
I’m not sure what the point is of this new policy since most people will just separate out their purchases into multiple transactions…they will still be using the same amount of coupons. I think it’s just going to make for some really irritated cashiers because the people in their lines are going to have 5 and 6 different transactions.

Maybe it’s just me, but I hadn’t really noticed stores revising their coupon policies to the extent they have lately. Also, I’ve NEVER, in almost 10 years of couponing, been treated as rudely as I have lately. I was at Target today and Joyce “The Chief of the Coupon Police” was a COMPLETE BLEEP! Although she had already bagged all of my purchases, she took each item out of the bag and matched it with the coupon I was using. She questioned my TARGET coupon for ANY Herbal Essence, Aussie, or Pantene, because I had purchased my FREE box of Herbashine, using my free box coupon. When I pointed out to Coupon Chief Joyce that the offending coupon was good for Aussie (I had Aussie hairspray in a bag.), as well as Herbal Essence, I thought she was going to VOID my whole transaction! Anyways, I’m sure everyone behind me in line was thinking bad things about the “extreme” couponer, when my transaction would have gone much smoother and quicker, if Coupon Chief Joyce hadn’t insisted on READING and STUDYING each coupon. I had already STUDIED the coupons before I shopped; so I saved $13.50 despite Coupon Chief Joyce’s efforts.

Today for the first time I tried to use the sunday paper coupon for cover girl the $8 discount…AND YES THEY GAVE ME A HARD TIME TO USE THEM. I did study the coupon carefully..they stated that blush or bronzer and eyeshadow was not a face make-up. I exchanged some items and still the machine wouldn’t take them..finally the first person who didn’t wanted to take the coupons..decided to over write them. I thought that if the machine takes the coupons that means they are valid.

I appreciate Target giving coupons BUT these last two weeks have my blood boiling with being told couponers make Target loose money!! I have written two complaints against my local target. I spent 45 minutes the other day fighting a manager who told me I couldn’t use a coupon because the “picture” didn’t match my item even though the coupon description was allowed. He then said, “well it could be in the clause with not valid on a travel item”. I said facial cleanser is NOT a travel item, he said well it could be…………. He then proceeded to talk about me to every employee ine very check stand and into customer service with my Mom standing over there with my twins……This was suppose to be a simple transaction.
Ladies, what do we do when our coupons are allowed but the people working are trying to match a picture???? Also, my local Target is telling all Employee’s people who coupon are CAUSING store to loose money!!!!!!!!!! WHAT!?!? Oh no they didn’t is what I’m thinking each time I go in there the last two weeks. This is OUT of control. We are not criminals stealing products. We are using coupons they get reimbursed for. This has gotten ridiculous with Target and makes me wonder why so many are giving us couponers problems?
Last, my Target night manager told me since it states on the coupon limit one per item that means I can only use either a store or a manufacturer coupon but NEVER both……..Someone help me before I beat my head on the wall!!!!!!!!!!!

Elsa,
Next time, take your Target coupons to a Publix Supermarket that accepts Target as a competitor. Hopefully, you live in an area with a Publix. A friend of mine used all those makeup coupons PLUS a MQ coupon and stacked on different kinds of facial makeups (yes, I believe eyeshadow, blush was some of them – they are on the face aren’t they? The manager even checked it out and ok’d it all). She’s a homeschooling mom of 9 and uses it for paint during Art. =) It ended up being a MM with the stacking – so FREE paint for school. =)

im a newbie couponer, i never had trouble at cvs… but target took the cookie…i bought 6 shadows which each coupon was buy 2 and get 8 bucks off..so i used 3. My poor friend was doing a similiar transaction and the lady denied her using all 3 in same transactions..had to split her transactions even though i had just done the same transaction with the next cashier over

I completely agree, I went through the target check-out line and had a similar experience, not with coupon chief Joyce, but with another one of them. She rudely tried to tell me that I couldn’t use coupons because I didn’t get the right items. I then had to explain that the coupon uses words like and vs. or, after she went through and thoroughly read each coupon she finally let me through the line. Believe me I know I was getting the correct product for the coupon and have read my coupons prior to shopping.
