Most Physically Active States

 


New data reveals that Colorado takes the crown as the most active state in the US with only 16.7% of residents not partaking in exercise outside of their regular job.

 

Sleep experts MattressInsider.com analysed data from America’s Health Rankings Public Health Impact report which shows the percentage of adults who have reported doing no physical activity or exercise other than their regular job in the past 30 days.

 

Colorado ranks as the US state with the most physically active residents; 83.3% of people have reported taking part in a form physical activity outside of their regular job.

 

Utah comes in second with 82.7% stating that they have completed physical exercise outside of work in the past 30 days.

 

82.2% of Vermont and Washington residents have taken part in exercise outside of their regular jobs.

 

80.1% of residents in Oregon take part in physical activity, ranking the area the fourth most active state in the US.

 

Hawaii and New Hampshire come in fifth with 80% of resident reporting taking part in a form of physical exercise in the past 30 days.

 

California is sixth with 79.9% of people in the state taking part in physical activity.

 

In seventh position is Minnesota where 79.8% of residents take part in exercise outside of their regular job.

 

Ranking as the joint eighth most physically active US states are Alaska and Wisconsin with 79.7% of people in the area exercising outside of their regular job.

 

In ninth position is Idaho with 79.5% of people making the effort to exercise outside of work.

 

The tenth most physically active state is Virginia with 79.1% of residents taking part in physical activity.

 

Alabama ranks as the most physically inactive US state with only 68.5% of residents stating that they have taken part in any form of exercise, other than their regular job.

 

 

A spokesperson for MattressInsider.com commented on the findings:

 

“Exercise is vital for our health as well as our well-being. Physical activity is linked to aiding a betters night’s sleep and therefore it is encouraged to partake in some form each day.

 

Colorado has double the number of residents partaking in physical activity than Alabama.

 

On a wider scale, Healthy People 2030, which identifies public health priorities across the United States, has lined out a goal to improve health, fitness and quality of life through regular physical activity. Ways in which exercise can be encouraged are cycle to work schemes, activity friendly routes to everyday destinations, community engagement strategies as lined out by the CDC.”
