Organize Your Nightstand For a Restful Night’s Sleep
Has your bedside table become a catch-all for all of the miscellaneous items you pick up throughout the day? How many times have you knocked over a glass of water while trying to snooze the alarm?
It’s time to get your nightstand organized.
Having an organized nightstand is essential for getting a good night’s rest and feeling refreshed in the morning. I have tons of brochures in my nightstand, useful information that I have been wanting to read, but still got around too. Anything that doesn’t fit the purpose of being in a nightstand is clutter and should be moved to another room.
Make sure you tidy your nightstand during the day so that when you return to your bedroom at the end of a long day, you will be greeted by a pleasant sight making you happy.
As a general rule of thumb, the top of your nightstand should be level with the top of your mattress, or about 2-4” taller. It’s much easier for somebody to reach above to grab something when they’re laying on the bed, as opposed to reaching below.
To organize your nightstand, start by taking all items off including those in the drawers. Then, make a keep pile with items you would like to keep on the nightstand.
If your nightstand is like mine and has a flat countertop, with a drawer and a larger storage space underneath. Then, this is how you can arrange the items:
On top of the nightstand, you can keep items like a small lamp, alarm clock, box of facial tissues, a glass of water on a coaster. In the drawer, you can keep a flashlight, batteries, remote controls, lip balm, hand lotion, glasses, medications, pen, and a pad. On the storage space, you can keep books and a laptop.
Nightstand drawers can quickly become chaotic catch-all pits, so you will need to work a little to keep it being cluttered again. Anything that you won’t be needing in the night or early morning when you wake up does not need to be in the drawer.
Clear items like empty water bottles, used tissue, coffee mugs in the morning. Replace books if you have finished reading.
Sweet dreams!!!
