Bargain Mom readers share memories of Mother's Day

The other day I held a contest and asked readers to submit stories about their favorite Mother's Day memory.  I thought they were so touching I wanted to share them as their own story.

Happy Mother's Day to you.

I believe this year will be the most special mothers day. I have now moved in with my mom to help take care of her after all she has done for my brother and I. I dont know how long she will be with us and hope to make This Mothers day the best ever!!!!!

Mother's Day is special to me because of my own wonderful mother, who did a fabulous job with myself and my brother, and also because I am also now a mother to a little girl and boy. Even on the "bad" days, I am so thankful for all of them!

My most memorable Mother's Day was spending it with my 7 month old daughter at the time and also with my own mom. Becoming a mother put a whole new meaning on Mother's Day.

My best mothers day memory was also my last one with her. She had Alzheimer's , and was being transferred to Ohio in a week. As I was visiting her for the last time, she looked at me and smiled and squeezed my hand. For that brief moment, she recognized me, and I will always remember that. I think she was telling me it was gonna be ok, that we had a bond that would last forever.

Mother's day is special to me because I get a chance to enjoy a great day with my mom. I get a chance to cook for her and give her a day of no worrying.

Mother's Day is always special to me because I am the mommy to two of the most precious kido's!! They always try to make the day special for me. Each year, my daughter has her ballet recital the day before Mother's Day and she always tells me that her ballet dance is my big Mother's Day gift

would dress up as different people and come but our lemonade. She was a mop lady with her mop and bucket, she was a fancy lady with heels and a purse, ect. It was the best!!!

My mom was both mother and father after losing my dad at a young age, so we celebrate her on both days! She did a wonderful job with the responsibilities of two children and running a household, working, etc. Not sure I could do what she did!

Mother's Day is special to me because of my wonderful mom, grandmother, aunts, and my mother-in-law. They are always doing so much for others and they never complain about doing it!

I have many memories of traveling the country with my parents when I was a child. My mom loved traveling and she would smile everywhere we went!

I lost my mother almost 2 years ago. Several years ago, i starting buying her personalized snow globes for mothers day. She loved them. I still have them and they always make me remeber the HUGE smile she had on her face when she opened them.

The best times that I remember with my mom was when we use to go camping. We started out staying in a tent then moved up to a pop up camper. She would be so tired, but she would always fix us a good meal to eat for supper. It may have just been Dinty Moore Beef stew, but to me it was the best meal in the world, because Mom had taken the time to fix it. The one think I remember the most is when we were going to the bathhouse and it was dark. Mom had the flashlight and me and my brother were walking on each side of her. A skunk ran out of the woods and we screamed! My brother grabbed on of my mom's legs and grabbed the other one. She could not move because we were hanging on her legs. It is a wonder that the skunk did not spray us, but somehow it did not. Mother remained calm and the skunk left. Fun Times!!

One of my favorite traditions on Mother's Day is to stroll the Botanical Gardens with my husband and children. We enjoy fresh, beautiful roses! My family is a blessing every day to me and I cherish the memories we are making together.

I lost my Mom many years ago. Mother's Day is a special day for me to think about her. I think about her every day but Mother's Day is a day just for her. I think it is a special day for Mother and Daughter or Son to spend time together or think about the past. I love you MOM!!!

My mom is my best friend. She has been my rock through so many things. The happiest moment for me was when I had my son and my mom was there to help welcome him to the world. I had two miscarriages before I had him, so it was such a joyous occasion when he was born. I'm so happy my mom was there to share it with me! My mom and I are actually going to Atlanta next weekend to take my son and nephew to Legoland. It would be awesome to go to the World of Coke too!

A moment of happiness I shared with my mother was going on trips in the car together & singing songs the whole way there!

I love my mom so much because she gave me the best gift of all, she taught me how to be a wonderful mom!

My mom has always been dear to my heart...but having lost my dad recently, my mom...well, she is everything. Everything.

My mom is the best mom ever, I found out that when she was pregnant with me, 37 years ago, she had cancer, and the doctors told her to abort me, because it would be hard on her, but she said no. She had me,and then had several operations after that for the cancer, I love my mom, and now I have a wonderful husband and 2 beautiful children.

I have so many dear memories of my mom and I pray I will have many more. My mom is my best friend. She has been there to hold my hand during some difficult times and she has been there to celebrate with me during the good times. She is the one person on this earth that I can count on no matter what. My mom taught me about God, our wonderful Creator and Giver of all life. She has taught me about His Son in Whom we have eternal life. She has always been there to share her wisdom with me and has always been quick to apologize if she ever did anything wrong. I'm so thankful that I get to celebrate another Mother's Day with her.

When I was in labor with my oldest daughter, my mom was the only one in there with me and she helped me through the whole process! Love my mom!

My son was born a couple of days before Mother's Day in 2000. He had some breathing difficulties and had to spend several days in the NICU. The nurses and staff at St. Vincent's were so sweet to create cute little momentos for moms "from" the babies in the unit. Thankfully, we got to bring our son home a few days later, but it is a Mother's Day I won't forget.

Mothers Day is special to me not only to honor my mother who is the reason I am who I am today but also it special because it is a day to celebrate my wife, who is an amazing mother to my 3 precious kiddos! No one has a harder job than all the moms out there.

Brent Latta

It's hard to choose a best moment with my mom - there are so many, but I love Mother's Day because it's so fun to surprise her with some gift or experience she genuinely wasn't expecting. Those are fun memories!

Mother's Day is special to me because it celebrates the best part of my life, my kids. I would not be who I am without them. I also like the breakfast in bed on Mother's day!

angelbud

I love the homemade crafts from my kids on Mother's Day!

Melanie Busby

I love the extra attention I get on Mother's Day, but the best part is seeing how much my kids enjoy it. They are always so excited and work hard to make me feel special. I am truly blessed.

My firstborn child arrived a few days early, on Mother's Day 1989, making my first Mother's Day one I will always cherish.

Being a mother is an awesome job, but I also have a wonderful mom. This is why Mother's Day is so special.

Mother's Day is so Special to me. Even thought my mother has gone on, I still remember her picking all of us a red rose to wear on that special day. I enjoy seeing all the children at church so proud of their mothers that day.Sometimes they are carrying a card they made or a flower they planted.Thank God for Mothers everywhere!

The day my daughter was born, my mom said, "This little girl is going to bring you so much joy. Just like you did to me." My mom passed away not long after that, but I always think of her words. And as this will be our daughter's last Mother's Day home with us before leaving for college this summer, it's overwhelming how much joy this little girl truly has brought to both my husband and me.

This is very different from the rest of your responses, but one of the most special moments that I will always remember is the look on my mom's face and the memory of how she said goodbye to my dad. We didn't want to leave him in the emergency room at the hospital, but they told us they needed to prep him for ICU. We had no idea when she blew him a kiss that it would be her last one. We were the last ones with him when a blood clot took his life quickly after we shut the door. We thought we would be going right back in, but the doctors said it happened very quickly after we walked out of the room. She and I have went over and over those final moments in our head for two years now, and it's a memory that she and I will always share.

My favorite moment of happiness with my mom.. wow.. I was pregnant with my daughter (who is now 11).. I was in college & would come home each night exhausted, due to my hectic schedule. And due to my expanding belly, I started getting the glorious stretch marks. I would lay down on my parents' bed & watch tv with my mom.. I would expose my preggo tummy & momma would talk to my daughter, as she massaged Cocoa butter lotion & Vitamin E all over my belly. We had some of our best talks ever during those nights!!

As I'm getting older I realize how valuable my time is with my mother. I try to spend as much time with her as I can.

My moment of happiness that I shared with my mother was giving birth to her 1st grandchild/granddaughter and having her at the birth with me 11-1/2 yrs ago.

One of the best memories I have of my mom were the moments I spent with her the last night she was alive...sitting around her table talking as we prepared dinner. She told me about some bowls she had ordered but, due to her declining eyesight, she had accidently over ordered them. She thought they would be great for nacho cheese. She passed away in her sleep that night and, on the day of her memorial service, the bowls arrived. There were 3 (one for each child she had) and they were called "Forget me not" by Tupperware. They are not made for nacho cheese - but it's almost like it was just meant to tell us something.

My moment of happiness with my mom was introducing her to my baby boy almost 6 years ago - her first grandson. Such a great memory!
