Publix Super Markets Gardendale will have a grand opening event Dec. 13, at 7 a.m.
The 45,800 square-foot store will have a number of treats for the first 1,000 customers who swing by the new store. The new location is in the Magnolia City Place shopping center.
Here are the details:
The first 1,000 customers will receive a free Publix re-usable grand opening grocery bag.
Flowers will be given to customers as they enter the store while supplies last.
The first 25 customers who purchase $50 or more in groceries will receive a free bag of groceries valued at $25.
Fun activities for children will take place from 3-7 p.m.
Customers will be encouraged to register to win prizes throughout the store including a $100 gift card from Publix as well as cakes, deli platters, digital blood pressure kits and fresh products from the meat and seafood departments.
Prizes will be given away daily throughout grand opening week.
If you're new to shopping at Publix here are some quick tips:
1. They double coupons up to 50 cents everyday, all day. Manufacturer coupons only. They do not double store coupons or store coupons from competitors. (Excludes coastal Georgia, Florida)
2. Generous coupon booklets, printable coupons and in-ad coupons -- They offer copious amounts of coupons found in Publix stores, at customer service, in the paper, online and via Pet Club, Baby Clubs, Preschool Clubs and Family Magazines. You can sign up for all of their clubs and magazines online right here.
3. You can use competitor coupons -- They allow you to use competitor coupons from stores noted here for Alabama. Check your store to confirm who they consider a competitor. This includes money off coupons, catalinas, in ad coupons, store coupon printables.
4. Yellow Advantage and Green Advantage ads feature coupons and special savings for a 3 to 4 week period. You will need the ads for the coupons. The Yellow Ad is usually included in the Sunday paper the day after the sale starts. That's only if your zip code is selected by Publix for distribution. You can get extras at customer service within reason.
5. Publix Promise -- If the price of the item rings up higher than an advertised price from their ad or their shelf tag, you get that one item free.
6. No coupon limits -- After $50 of coupon deductions for your trip, they will call a manager over to override the computer.
7. Stacking -- They do allow you to stack coupons, meaning you can use one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. You can also stack other coupons as well. For instance if you have a Buy One Get One Free coupon for a certain product and you also have a coupon for the item you have to buy to the get the second item free, you can use a cents off coupon on the one you are purchasing, not on the free item.
8. Penny item -- The Penny item happens every Wednesday. The coupon is required and will appear in the A section of your local Wednesday paper. Your total, pre-coupons, must be at least $10. Use the penny coupon first, then your other coupons.
9. Buy one get one free specials are your friend -- 1. You don't have to buy both items. You can buy 1 of the BOGO items and pay only half price. (Unlike Winn Dixie where you'll need to buy both)
2. You can also use coupons on each of the buy one get one free products. (This is because the item is not free, it's actually half price)
The really awesome way to work a BOGO free sale is to have 2 store coupons and 2 Manufacturer coupons to use on 1 BOGO deal.
This principle also applies to their 10 for $10 sales. You can buy 1 for $1 and use a coupon on each of the sale items. So if you have 5 coupons buy 5 items for $5.
10. Rain checks -- If the deal you're looking for is gone make sure you get a rain check at customer service. Normally they do not expire but recently a few Publix have started putting a 30 day expiration date on them. Either way it's a great way to make a sale on your own time.
