There is an interesting development regarding monthly UP Rewards. I recevied emails from several of you stating that you only received 1 Up Reward when buying multiple monthly Up Rewards items.
I then received a copy of a chat from Stephanie:
Buy 1 Salmon/Sardines, $1 cpn. Buy 1 BumbleBee Tuna, get $1 cpn. Buy 1 Oberto BeefJerky, $1 cpn, Buy 1 Motts Applesauce, $1 cpn, Buy 1 DelMonte Fruit, $1 cpn, Buy 1 DAK Ham, get $1 cpn. All of these are limit to 1 per house hold per month.
It appears as though these items are limit 1 per household. Let us know if you have experienced this or different?
For a complete list of monthly UPR, see here.
Thanks, John, Stephanie & Katjia

I bought 4 cans of sardines and 4 cans of tuna and got eight $1 UPR’s. I was early in because on Saturday I noticed they didn’t have but six cans of each on the shelves and my hubby loves the sardines. Got lucky I guess! I sorta believe in the limits, otherwise some people get greedy and buy everything up. Still, the stores should really be stocking in anticipation of a sale. It seems like false advertising to put things on sale, then not have enough to go around. Of course, from their perspective, they are just trying to give you incentive to come in, but they probably don’t realize if that’s what’s bringing you in, you’re gonna get really ticked about not being able to pick up your sale items and so will end up spending less. Sometimes I even walk out and spend nothing if they don’t have what’s on sale on the shelves.
nancy says
I am all for limits. 4 sounds reasonable. So sick of getting behind people who have baskets and carts full of the sale stuff and don’t leave any for the rest of the people. They are at the stores first thing in the morning emptying the shelf then talk about going to another Rite Aid to do the same.
Corrina H. says
Rite Aid posted on their Facebook page that they are removing the UPR limits on these. Yay! =0)
Corlien says
@Corrina H.,
I read their facebook page, and the limit has been lifted just until the end of this week’s weekly add. Not for the whole month. Just a tip for whatever it’s worth!!
Elecia says
I had an online chat with a Rite Aid customer service rep who told me, that it’s the manufacturers that were imposing limits on the +Up rewards. I asked specifically about Bumble Bee, Del Monte, and Dak. The rep said the manufacturers were imposing the limits not Rite Aid in each of these cases. Hmm, really, are you serious?
I was told that there are dis-claimers posted in the stores regarding the limits on +Up rewards and the store managers can impose any purchase limit they choose to.
Janice K. says
I met our local shelf clearer :) She and her husband are on a mission every Sunday, they hit CVS at 8am and Rite Aid at 9am. I think it’s about time a limit is made, but 1 is too extreme. I did buy many Johnson and Johnson products, but that’s because our Rite Aid still had a nice stock on the Friday after the sale started. I gave it almost a full week before I stocked up, but I still left plenty too.
I discovered something interesting with our local Rite Aid, they actually are more stocked later in the week. I think they do this because of the shelf clearer and the complaints. Also, they did tell me that the Nivea was going to be limited to 2 per customer. Not sure if that was just that store though.
Alison says
I asked the super nice manager at one of the stores near me about it. She said they were told limits were being enforced for several reasons – to prevent stock from being wiped out on the first day of a sale, and because so many people started ordering large quantities in advance. I know rite aid isn’t always well stocked for sales, but they are also relatively small sized stores and don’t physically have room to store large quantities. This particular manager told me it has been hard to track/ maintain inventory with the huge orders, and even worse if someone ordered something and it didn’t show up on time then they didn’t want it after the sale.
Dont get me wrong, I think a limit of one is ridiculous but I’m not totally surprised they’re doing it. I just hope it’s a temporary thing until they figure out a better way to run the system!
Carrie says
Bought 3 Snickers in 3 transactions before I noticed I’d only gotten one UPR. My kids didn’t mind :) but I did! I went back to the fine print in the ad and it was noted. Bummer.
Shannon says
@Carrie,
yeah that one was not changed – I believe that one was in the matchups too.
Lisa says
This morning I got ups for every can of tuna. This evening I only got one up for eight cans. They must have just pushed through the change.
themommyliza says
@Lisa, maybe so, because I got the UPs for all four cans of tuna I got on 3/8 at 3pm. My store did not have them labeled for $1UP, but they still printed out.
Courtney says
Do yall plan to email Rite Aid corp about this issue ?
Lynzee says
so sad on the limit of 1! Really stinks because we asked our store manager to order tons of it like we always do for a good sale, she already ordered it, imagine how much she may get and now it isnt going to sale.
dizzymommy73 says
While I am against clearing the shelves, I am fully and completely against changing a sale mid week. My new Rite Aid is very small and had 1 can of Tuna per the manager when they opened, it was gone right away. I had been waiting for Friday when they get there truck. So now I guess I wont bother stopping in, its pretty much out of my way.
I could see something like 4 or 5 per month maybe, but honestly we are talking about random food items for the most part in this case, I would’ve rather had Johnson and Johnson limited, women bought all of them at 3 different Rite Aids, then last week I saw her at a Mom 2 Mom sale… selling the Johnson and Johnson for 2 bucks each, she had tons.
Plus the SCRs have been confusing me lately as well, I feel like Rite Aid is just over complicating things and cant keep their own rules straight per different managers with different rules.
Also i saw somebody posted they were told by Rite Aid to call before going, now that is a major waste of time in my book.
Shelby says
Tonight I was at RA and bought 2 cans of sardines and I did not get the UPR. I was wondering what happened.
Mindy says
Its not hard to clear a shelf at Rite aid. They are ALWAYS bare!! Even sunday morning at 9am they are bare bare bare…. so really you could buy just 1 can of tuna and clear them out lmao!! Last sunday they didnt have 8 of the major things on sale in their papers. Very disappointing but good old cvs always stocks well = ) If all else fails price match at walmart .
Maria says
I got my UPR’s yesterday afternoon, didn’t shop RA today. When did they make the change?
Rhonda says
Maybe we should all boycott Rite Aid through the end of next weeks sales. Once they see how much money they lose in a week from couponers they may stock and plan better.
jill says
I’m probably in the minority, but I think RA should have more limits. Its crazy when you go to 3 different RAs within one hour of opening and all the best deals are completely wiped out. However, I think limiting to ONE can of tuna is a bit extreme. On a small item like that, I would think something like 4-ish would be fair.
I’m sure this is in response to stores reporting to corporate that shelf-clearers are coming in the second the doors open and wiping out the stock for the week – leaving the store managers to hear complaints all week from other customers when there is nothing left on the shelves that is advertised in the flyers.
Sal says
@jill, I agree with you Jill. A limit of 4 ish seems entirely reasonable to me and if there are families that could benefit from say 50 cans of sardines, they could write to RA and let RA know their story.
But I also agree that even with a limit 4, shelves will be cleared of sale items quickly because RA usually doesn’t carry a whole lot of any one item.
I wouldn’t even mind if they cracked down on wellness cards and accounts so that people couldn’t have 10 cards and screw folks like me who only have 1 (my DH doesn’t even have a separate card…guess I may rethink that one!).
I says
Couldn’t agree more!
Katie says
@jill,
I totally agree. I’ve been wondering why they don’t and if they’re losing money on it. How can they be? I think it’d be better for everyone involved if they set a few limits.
themommyliza says
@jill, four sounds reasonable to me, too. Since I have a large family, 1 can is hardly a snack, and definitely not worth a trip.
Amber says
I think a lot of the problem with Rite Aid is that they are not stocked very well to begin with. When people are “clearing the shelf” at my store it’s only 4-6 items so it makes it hard for us to get things. I got a rain check for 6 of the tuna fish this week thinking that the UPS would still print next week. So are they not going to be printing now?
Amanda says
Oh i forgot… As far as “shelf clearing”, drug stores have very limited stock sometimes, so although it looks as one person may have cleared the shelf, they may have only got 1 or 2 of the item because that is all the store had.. Example would be the dryer sheets from last weeks sale- 2 different stores only had 2 to start with, (I asked the manager)
I says
True. Kinda crazy how they don’t stock. Just a heads up though, you can order ahead if you want. :)
Amanda says
my 2 cents about limits. LOL… I dont mind a store having a limit set at all. But dont wait until the sale is going, and the ads are out to implement a “limit”. I just think it should be put out there before the sale or in the ad.. :)
Janet says
RIGHT!!! If you are going to have limits be CLEAR before the sale NOT after it’s been going on!
D says
not sure specifically about this deal, but last time a Up didn’t print for me, they told me I have to call 800-riteaid. The people at this store are really nice, and in the past they’ve just given me a gift card for the ups, but they told me they aren’t doing that anymore, b/c they got in BIG trouble for it…apparently corp. got wind of it and let them have it… :( Oh well! Still good deals to be had, just less of them I suppose!
Steph says
This limit was only imposed today. I agree that they need limits but 1 a month is absurd. I am not driving miles to get one can of tuna. Why would rite aid allow four colgate per week. And one food item a month? Ups will not be given out by customer service so if you do not want the items otherwise you have to return it to the store.
Diane says
I am glad they are putting some limits, when they were running the Johnson’s Baby stuff I went to 3 Rite Aids and couldn’t get what I wanted. Like some on here who posted they bought 12 or 18, I am sorry but that is not fair to the rest of us trying to get a few deals. I don’t think they should limit it to 1 but there should be a reasonable limit on items. Because like another post I am sick of the greedy people clearing the shelves and having to make several trips to try and find something I want. I only buy what I use or so I have a few extra’s on hand but clearing the shelves is just plain greedy!
I says
Agree!!!
Divya says
@Diane, Couldn’t agree more . The shelves are always empty when I go there Monday lunch time @work
rachel says
lame. I guess I will cancel my tuna fish order. Darn they were sold out on monday when I went. I guess they are having a hard time keeping the store stocked. I am disappointed I love having tuna melt for dinner.
Carol says
I just got back from Rite Aid. I got 6 cans and only 1 up reward printed.
The manager said that the limit is now 1, even though it does not show on the label. He let me return the 5 that didn’t print, so sad.
Janet says
About a week or so ago I was told by RA staff that they could no longer limit people(ie. the items that produced the +UP rewards) Please Rite Aid try to get your act together and be consistent!
Ree says
OK, I just saw the updates elsewhere. Wow, that really stinks that RA would change the limits without notice like that.
Bonnie says
I bought 6 cans of sardines (husband loves them!) on Sunday and got 6 +1UP rewards. About (1.5 hours ago-in Sacramento, CA) I bought 6 more at a different Rite Aid and 3 NY cosmetics on clearance. I got 3 +1UPS for the cosmetics and only 1 for the sardines. I noticed as I was walking out and went back to my cashier and told her. They checked the sign on self (which did not have a limit…and noticed that I got 3 +1UPS for the NY Cosmetics and gave me $5 cash for the sardine UPS I didn’t get! That was nice, but I am sure that wouldn’t happen again! BOO!!!
autum says
I think all stores should limit especially drugstores since the stocks are limited anyway. CVS is already doing this. I haven’t bought any tunas but if I were to go and find some I have a feeling I won’t find any. I was there today looking at snacks. I wanted to try Burger King snack for once in my life and I haven’t gotten a hold of one yet.
Kristen says
On Sunday, I purchased 8 cans of the Port Clyde sardines & I received 8 $1 UPRs. So, seems like I wasn’t limited to 1 monthly UPR.
Lisa says
I bought 4 cans of sardines yesterday and got $1 +up for each.
Karla says
I just purchased 4 cans of tuna today, and received 4-$1 UPS. This was in PA, around 12:40pm.
Alyssa says
if so there goes my tuna deal for next week!!
Janet says
My local Bottom Dollar will be having a pretty good tuna deal starting Friday and I have a coupon for $10 off a $20 purchase. Guess I will be adding tuna from there rather than Rite Aid next week.
Lily says
Today, I bought four Del Monte pineapple cans. Got 4 x $1 +ups.
R says
I’m guessing I’ll turn out to be in the minority, but I say it’s about time they set some limits! I’m sick of greedy shelf-clearers!
T says
Amen!!! I think back to halloween when people were posting about getting 80+ bags of candy for free at riteaid…..thats totally ridiculous and it’s about time RiteAid stands up and starts limiting their UP’s to prevent people from abusing the system.
Emily says
@T,
Agreed! You are not alone; I happen to think that limits are long over due at Rite Aid.
Specially when people in order to get everything on a shelf decide to block people from coming out of their cars in the parking lot, assuming that they are going in on a Sunday mornign to get the Sunday hot deals when in fact SOME OF US DO go in to get prescriptions.
Rite Aid Place limits NOW.
Nikki says
@Emily,
I agree. I went in there one sunday morning & this chick had 36 rolls of paper towels. not cool. My problem is my riteaid only has about 2 of most things so even if i buy only 2 I’m clearing the shelf.
Divya says
@Emily, Emily that is totally ridiculous . Blocking people from entering stores. Wow it is not freaking black friday
Gina R. says
I bought 4 cans of tuna today. It only printed 1 reward. The Manager told me there must be a limit of one. I returned the tuna.
Nancy says
I bought 6 cans of tuna last Wednesday and got back all 6 + up rewards…so I did it again and got 6 more.
Christie says
I bought 8 cans of the bumblebee tuna and received up rewards for each of them. I hope it doesn’t turn into 1 per househole!
Rebecca says
Hi Shannon–I tried to buy 4 cans of the Bumblebee tuna today and didn’t notice until I got home that it only printed 1 up…I called and was informed by customer service that it is only 1 per household for all of those products you have listed and also the Riceworks (I made him go through the list and I checked them with your list). He informed me that any time I was going to buy a large quantity, I should call 1-800-Riteaid first to see if the deal was still available….somehow, 4 cans of tuna doesn’t seem like a “large quantity” but oh well…he was in no way going to send me those extra 3 ups (and I talked to him for a long time)….since I got a few cans on Sunday before it was limited, I don’t feel too upset….but heck, we are having tuna sandwiches on Friday now that Lent has started, so it isn’t even worth it to take them back…they will do much better in my tummy!
Rebecca says
@Rebecca, I should add that the customer service rep told me that this change was ordered by corporate last night and should be implemented starting today….
Janet says
Well if my local RA ordered 20 cans of sardines I will not be buying them at this time since the +UP’s are now limited.
Neisy says
I received all my UPS on multiples of same product…i.e. 4 UPS on 4 sardines
Janet says
I’ve bought many sardines and cans of tuna and received +UP’s. Did they implement a change?
Tami R. says
I bought 18 cans of tuna on sunday morning and received all 18 +up rewards.
Tami R. says
@Tami R., I just want to add that this was between three Rite Aids and I left some on the shelf! :0)
Karla says
Has this just recently changed? I have bought six cans of the bumble bee tuna between 3/1 and 3/6 and have gotten 6-$1 ups.
Nicole says
@Karla, I heard this change just went into effect this afternoon.
Alecia says
I bought 2 Tunas and 2 Crabs on Monday the 7th and got $1 UP for each but maybe it’s changed since then. I’m in upstate NY.
fethiye says
yes, it just happened to me with tuna. I explained them that I should have received 3 more UPs (I bought 4 items) and they have given me gift card for $3.
Anny says
I received 4upr for 4 sardines on Saturday and 2upr for 2 cans of tuna Sunday.
Grace says
I bought 10 tuna and got all UPS. It was this morning. I hope they dont’ limit it to just one.
Ree says
This did NOT happen to me. But I shop first thing Sunday morning because my store runs out of stock within the first ten minutes or less. Really!
I bought six cans of the Bumblebee chunk light tuna and got six $1 Ups.
Are the reports coming from people shopping later in the week, I wonder?
Katie says
@Ree, this did not happen to me either. I bought ten cans of tuna (and left 22 on the shelf!) and got all of my UPS.
Sarah says
Sunday I bought 6 Bumble Bee Tuna Cans- Chunk Light in Water and received 6 $1 +Ups.
I was gonna buy more later in the week, but not if they’re not giving +Ups.
Deadra says
I purchased 4 Sardines and 4 Tuna’s on Sunday and received a $1 +up for each one!! Guess I was one of the lucky ones! I shop at the Brandenburg,KY RiteAid.
M says
I went yesterday and got several for the tuna. That stinks though!! I wanted to get Applesauce!!
Caitlin says
I bought 6 cans of tuna and got 1.00 up reward on all of them! I bought the tuna in two different transactions.
Steph says
A side note: I called first and hoped they were wrong so came home and got that response on the chat :(
Tina Seymour says
I bought 12 cans of tuna Sunday and got all 12 ups. has it changed since Sunday??
JuJuBeeMama says
I bought two sardines and got two ups.
Corlien says
This must be new today. The other day, I think it was Monday, I bought ten Bumble Bee Tuna Chunk Light Tuna cans for buy one get one half off and all ten gave me $1 food UPs. I was going to try to get more, as we eat a lot of tuna. I guess I will wait to see what others post!!
Jen T says
So long shelf-clearing… Lol. 1 seems to be a little extreme though.
Jen Jen says
@Jen T, 1 does seem extreme, but it might just be a wake up call to the greedy hoarders out there to leave some for the rest of us. On the other hand, it IS irritating when a store starts a sale week with very few of those items in stock. Typically, stores feel that 4 items per customer is reasonable and I agree.
Lydia says
@Jen T, I agree that 1 is a bit extreme. At the same time I get tired of going into the 2 Rite Aids within walking distance of me on Monday and not being able to get much of anything.
Angela says
I’ve gotten 22 ups for 22 cans of bumblebee tuna in two separate transactions :)
Angela says
@Angela,
There were still plenty left, my riteaid was wellstocked for a change!! :)
Jessa says
Just bought a second set of 4 cat treats, I mean sardines. Another 4 UPs printed. (Western NY)
Lauren @ I am THAT lady says
I went on March 2nd and bought 6 cans of Bumble Bee Tuna Fish, I got 6 $1.00 +UP rewards. I wonder if they changed it after that?? I haven’t been back since to check it out again.
Sarah B. says
I got like 8 of them for the Sardines on monday but haven’t tried since…
