Four Cats, yes, we have 4 cats; Callie, Wilbur, Max and Speedy. All of them are foster fails from a local rescue organization. We fell in love with our little fur babies and just couldn’t part with them. We like to think they couldn’t part with us either because they hated going to adoption day. Of course we want them to have a long and happy life with us and that includes access to good food, sunny windows and plenty of active play time. If you are a pet parent, especially a cat pet parent, you know they can be just like our human children; buy them an expensive toy, and they play with the box! So I try to make cat toys for our cats. I get to be crafty and save money and the cats get fun toys to play with. One of the easiest things to make are DIY No Sew Catnip Toys.
These are so easy to make and you can utilize fabric scraps you have on hand. I used some felt square for these, but if you use felt, make sure it is thin. These square were a little hard to close. Old flannel sheets work great for this project. Beware, as soon as you open the catnip, you will get help! The cats were inspecting the bags of supplies even before I started the project.
DIY No Sew Catnip Toys
You will need:
- Felt (thin) or flannel squares about 9 inches square
- Poly fill
- Catnip
- Ribbon
- Sharp Scissors
Cut your fabric to size if needed. This does not need to be exact. Put a small ball of poly fill in the center of the square and then sprinkle about 1 ½ -2 tablespoons of catnip over it.
Pull the sides together and make a ball at the bottom. This is where having the thick felt fabric was an issue. It was harder than flannel to bring the sides together. Now tie a piece of ribbon around the center to cinch it together. You need to tie it very tight and I make 2 knots in each toy.
Wasn’t that easy? If you are crafty you probably have most of the supplies sitting around your house already. You can whip these up in just minutes. Then prepare to laugh your butt off. I think Wilbur needs an intervention!
Of course active play time is important to your cat’s health and well-being but so is good nutrition. Cats can be very finicky so you need to balance what tastes good with what is good for them. While I was at PetSmart visiting with the adoptable rescue cats, I saw a new cat food on the shelf called Muse; sold exclusively at PetSmart.
Muse is a new cat food that comes in broth, chowder, with toppers, in gravy and pate—30 recipes in all. It’s like a smorgasbord of options for your cat. All of the recipes are made with real fish or poultry; contain no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives and they are grain free. Muse has 100% complete and balanced nutrition for your cat.
Muse has a “clean plate guarantee” so I picked up several varieties to try. Since we have 4 cats, their tastes can all be different. It depends on their mood. If you have cats, you know what I am talking about!
Speedy helped decide what flavors we were trying first. We served up the natural tuna and shrimp pate variety.
They all loved the taste and cleaned their plates. Max likes to eat alone and as you can see Callie was looking for seconds!
I was happy that with Muse you don’t have to choose between natural nutrition and food that tastes great. Your cat can have both when you choose Muse. “Natural has never been so delicious. Put Muse to the test with our clean plate guarantee.”
Right now there is a printable coupon available that will get you three free packages of Muse when you purchase three.
