If you are in more of a hurry, find a thrift store instead. But, find one in a high end neighborhood, one where the store sorts through the donations to select only the best. Besides knit caps and winter gloves for $2.00, they had new tools at huge discounts, used furniture, Route 66 memorabilia, and very good prices on latex paint.

50 cents at a thrift store, but you can even grab a 50-100 piece puzzle at the dollar store and it will work great too. Spray paint or craft paint in both red and green. Check out your dollar store for lots of options. Apply a liberal amount of red craft paint or spray paint covering them entirely.

We do put up decorations (ones I buy at garage sales or thrift stores and reuse each year). Mom’s black cape, some makeup and a piece of cardboard cut and painted black to make bats ears can make someone into Dracula. No kids = no money on candy = no candy wrappers in the landfill. Tip # 2 Recycle/reuse costumes.
