Earn extra cash by recycling old appliances, computers & metal

Over the past year I've made a concerted effort to recycle metals for cash.  I'm not picking up cans on the side of the road, but I do make piles of items that I can recycle.

Some of my biggest hauls netted $18 while my smallest $10.  Not very impressive but still it's more than I would have received from trashing the items, right?

How I got started:

I grabbed a cardboard box and put it in a corner.

I went through all of my cupboards and tossed metal items, cans, knick knacks, old appliances and other items into the box.

As days rolled into weeks, my stash of items to recycle grew larger.  Once the box was full or overflowing I made a trip to a local metal recycler.

You will need a valid ID to sell your metal for scrap.

There are numerous recycling facilities that pay money for metal scrap.   Want to find one? Simply Google 'Scrap Metal facilities' for your area to find a dealer near you.

Call the yard before you go to confirm they accept the items you plan to sell.

Make sure you follow their rules.

It's best to develop a trusting relationship with your facility rather than being a theif or misrepresenting the items you are trying to scrap.
