Frugal Travel & Educational Games: Save travel brochures & postcards for homemade souvenirs

brochure rack.jpg

This project admittedly will only work with a certain age group -- the age group my kids are in right now 7 and under-- what is it?

Save travel brochures for craft projects, scrapbooking or educational activities.

While the thought of more paper is slightly annoying, trust me if you handle it right you'll be OK.

Here's what you need:

Brochures from visitor centers and welcome stations.

A bag or folder to store the items throughout your trip.

Safety scissors

Glue

Construction or scrapbook paper

What you'll do:

Let you children pick brochures for locations they want to visit or did visit.

If they are old enough to write stories have them journal what they did at each location.

If they are not old enough to write have them draw pictures about their travels.

Let them cut out portions of the brochures and glue it to construction paper.

While this is old fashioned and certainly not digitally oriented the children are learning storytelling and documenting skills.

This is a great way to encourage your children to discover new places or remember the places they toured while on a road trip.

Postcard/Flashcard game:

Pick up postcards everywhere you go this summer and have your relatives do it as well.

Save them in a photo album or laminate them at a teacher supply or office supply store.

Since postcards feature information in nugget form on the back, they are perfect for flashcard games and geography lessons.

Go

for older kids.
