5 Hilarious Free Games to Play at Your Next Game Night

Board games can be expensive. Even game apps can get pricey. So how can you give your game night a fresh, fun makeover on a budget? These five hilarious games might be the answer you’re looking for. Not only can they be uproariously funny, but they are also free or nearly free.

Telephone

Maybe you played telephone as a kid, but we bet you haven’t tried it for a while. Your next game night would be a good opportunity to whip out the old favorite. In telephone, one person whispers a phrase to the person next to them. Then, that person repeats the phrase to the person next to them and so on. By the end of the chain, the phrase is usually quite different than it started.

Does one of the participants speak a foreign language? Even better! Have them start the chain with a phrase in a foreign language to see how dramatically it changes.

Charades

You know the drill: act out objects, actions, songs, movie titles, or more without using any words. It’s a simple concept, but it can lead to endless fun. To up the fun factor, try picking a theme for the night, like Disney movies. The theme might make it easier for kids to play, and it can also make the game more focused and fun.

Telephone Charades

Telephone charades is the hilarious hybrid of telephone and charades. In this game, the first person acts out a clue for the next person in line. That person tries to act out the same clue for someone else. The last person in line tries to guess what the original clue was.

Sticker Stalker

Sticker stalker isn’t free, but it is affordable. All you need is a sheet of stickers for each participant. Over the course of the evening, each person tries to put their stickers on other people without being noticed. If someone catches you in the act, they put a sticker on you instead. Whoever gets rid of their stickers first wins.

Word At a Time Story

Word at a time story is a classic improv game, but it can be just as fun as a party game. In this activity, each person provides one word as part of a larger story. Then, the next person provides a word and so on and so forth. You can go around in a circle for minutes or hours depending on your interest and creativity. As the story is handed over between participants, it usually gets stranger and more hilarious.
