6 Healthy Tips For A Happy Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving comes around only once a year, but for me, any extra pounds I gain during the holidays stays with me kind off permanently.
So, this year I plan on enjoying all the traditional favorites and also strive for weight management instead of weight gain.
Here are some of my sister’s favorite tips for a healthy Happy Thanksgiving:
Eat a modest breakfast. Choosing a modest-sized breakfast with protein and whole grains will keep you satisfied and help prevent before-meal munching on rolls and dips.
Drink Water – Limit intake of alcohol and sweetened beverages like soda, juice, or punch. Drink water throughout the day, you can add fresh lemon or lime wedges to your water for added pizzazz.
Eat slowly – Put your fork down between bites. Savor the food, enjoy what you are putting in your mouth. Eat the vegetables first.
Show Your Gratitude – This holiday season I’m going to write down the things I’m most grateful for and keep the list in a place where I will be able to see it every day, so that I can be reminded of the many blessings in my life.
Skip the Seconds – Trust me, leftovers are much better the next day. Choose the best bets and try to limit yourself to one plate. White turkey meat, plain vegetables, roasted sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, thin gravy, and pumpkin pie are the best bets because they are lower in fat and calorie.
Portion Control – Instead of eating foods that I can eat all year long, I intend to have reasonable-sized portions of foods that I cannot live without. Some of these favorites come around only once a year only.
Honestly, I know you are thinking one day of indulgence isn’t going to offset the healthy lifestyle that we maintain for the rest of the year. Well, if you do go overboard, tomorrow is a new day.
