According to this NY Times posting , from December 2009 to December 2010, corn and coffee shot up over 50%, wheat just shy of 50%, over 25% for soybeans, and the list goes on. Costco Credit Card – For gas it gives up to 3% and restaurants 2%, but all other spending (including Costco and their groceries) only earns 1% cash back.

Gas stations, some hotels, some restaurants are examples of places you might negotiate a cash discount. In 2008-2009 when we had the credit crunch and recession, there was at least one day when stores were not accepting credit. If you didn’t have cash to spend that day, you may well have been stranded out of gas.
