Are we on our way to an actual depression (as opposed to the Great Recession)? If you want to read up on that stuff, plenty of it was written in 2008 and 2009. Is now the time to put that in the market and make it grow? Write a book about our experiences during the Great Recession and this aftermath of it and offer it for sale.

Although we think of the Great Recession starting in early 2009, it wasn’t until 2013 that the 5 year CD interest rate fell below 1% – and has stayed there ever since according to Bank Rates interest survey data. Instead of saving, we could take some bigger risks to try to grow our money.

One of our sons lost a job during the 2009 recession. If you aren’t presented with obstacles, you don’t grow. We plan to live long and active lives and will need quite a bit of our estate to see us through to our own ends. Lastly, we tend to actually refuse to help out when they feel needy.
