This was in the early 1990s, for reference. I wouldn’t qualify it as embarrassing, given the time period, but we lost our entire downpayment on the first house we bought. They had me, and then my mom decided to go back to school full-time and get a PhD. The freedom was amazing. What’s one thing you splurge on?
