When she saw that her great-grandchildren were not writing thank you notes for her gifts to them, she sent their parents a set of Thank you note cards with envelopes and postage! A 2012 study , reported in Personality and Individual Differences found that an attitude of gratitude correlated positively with self-reported heath.

If you understand why your parents are offering support, you may make a better decision on whether or not to accept it. They may be offering it for their own benefit, more than yours. Parental pride in ‘my daughter the doctor’ may play a role in their desire to fund at least part of school expenses.

On March 28, 2012 the Senate passed Resolution 409 that officially recognized April as National Financial Literacy Month. I will be planning parts of my Grandma’s Money Camp (a one week experience for my grandchildren to help teach them financial literacy) in observation of National Financial Literacy Month.

Even the New York Times acknowledges that: As boomers join the ranks of grandparents, many are financing vacations for their children and grandchildren. My WWII era uncle and his wife made trips annually with one of their 4 grandchildren (a different one each year). For our 2012 trip (which we took in June), I started the fall before.

I putt some colored rocks and some pennies in mine and wrote “Money Camp 2012” on it in printed capital letters. How do you teach your children and grandchildren the benefits of giving?
