2017 was a great year, but for some reason I did not create personal goals for myself last January. Everyone who rocks goals talks about accountability, so this year I’m sharing a few top personal goals that I made for myself and I’ll update you throughout the year on my progress. These are just my personal goals.

At a time when some writers tend to grouse about raising children, Rau revels in her good fortune and the day-to-day: teaching her younger son how to read using “Garfield” comic books; encouraging her older son to design his grandmother’s gravestone; observing the motley crew of boys who patronize “the yellow house” (Rau’s) for years.

Stanley’s book, Millionaire Women Next Door: The Many Journeys of Successful American Businesswomen, and I had an aha moment. Chapter 17 in this book is titled, “Why not run the family office?” I read this book around the same time that I became a mother and left the full-time workforce to stay at home with our new baby.

Our main financial goal is to pay off our last non-mortgage loan. It was a goal in 2018, but high medical bills and other financial challenges hindered our progress. Back in December, I read the book, Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying Your Life by Reducing Your Waste. My word for 2019 is REDUCE.

A lot of life happened over 7 years and our plan changed slightly, but our goal remains to achieve complete freedom from debt. 2018 Update. Our 2019 Financial Goal. We can now move on to other financial goals. The book walks you through the years starting in middle school and gives you a step by step check list.

The topic came to me when I realized that my husband and I haven’t really talked about our future financial goals in awhile. We talked about our 2018 financial goals back in late December, but we didn’t look past the current year. And personally, I want to run a full marathon and write a book.
