What I Spent, What We Ate | I skipped Tuesday’s cooking

The Frugal Girl

What I Spent. I spent $151 at the grocery store and $25 on my Hungry Harvest box. So, $176 total. June Spending. Week 1: $160. Week 2: $176. What We Ate. Saturday. Mr. FG and I went out to Five Guys for a quick date night.

I’m not passionate about cooking. I just like to eat.

The Frugal Girl

I think there’s a difference. People who are passionate about cooking seem to really enjoy the process. They like to play around in the kitchen, and cooking seems to fulfill some creative desires inside of them.

What I did with yesterday’s Hungry Harvest

The Frugal Girl

My Hungry Harvest yesterday was mostly vegetables. In fact, I think the only fruit was a bag of large apricots and some kiwifruit. This is fine, but I (and probably a lot of people!) find fruit to be a whole lot easier to eat than vegetables.

What am I going to do with an empty nest?

The Frugal Girl

Kristen, Gosh, time has flown by! Just read your post about having two HS grads — I think I started reading your Frugal Girl when everyone was a baby! Zoe and me around the time I started blogging. So, I was just wondering if you had been doing any advanced planning for an empty nest?

WIS, WWA | You should try BLTs Lisey’s way!

The Frugal Girl

See Tuesday’s meal for the BLT mention. What I Spent. I didn’t get a Hungry Harvest this week (I’m trying every other week this summer to see if that works out well), and I spent $160 at the grocery store. What We Ate. Saturday. Pizza night! I bought pizza instead of making it.

Five Frugal Things | homeschool books, taco truck sauce, and more

The Frugal Girl

I sold Zoe’s school books. She finished school last week and I listed, sold, and shipped her non-consumable textbooks. The nice thing about your youngest kid finishing books is that you can get rid of them! No more schoolbook storage once she’s done with them.).

My Un-Riveting Story

The Frugal Girl

As I’ve perused the personal finance blogosphere, I’ve noticed that a lot of bloggers used to be pretty bad with money and thus have some amazing come-back stories…things like, “I paid off $60,000 of debt in 8 months.”

Grilling season is well under way, and if you’ve gone through all your tried and true BBQ recipes, you may be hitting the mid-summer menu doldrums. If so, one of the easiest ways to add a little interest to your grilling repertoire is to put a spin on one of summer’s classic dishes, the hamburger.

May’s Happiness Habit, plus what I’m trying in June

The Frugal Girl

In May, my goal was to read a chapter a day, and I think I exceeded that. I finished seven books in May, actually! Four of them (Vinegar Girl, Dept. of Speculation, The Watsons Go to Birmingham, and The House on Mango Street) were pretty short, though, so this sounds more impressive than it is.

The Frugal Girl

I did my end-of-month numbers round up last week, because I forgot that May actually had one more week. Whoops. I’m just gonna add them into today’s post, with updated numbers. What I Spent. I skipped my Hungry Harvest box this week because I had too much produce to use.

Progress is almost never dramatic.

The Frugal Girl

Big wins, sudden breakthroughs, and “aha!” ” moments are what we’d all love to experience. But in my experience (ha), those happen really, really rarely. In pretty much every area of my life, progress has happened slowly over time.

How to Travel With a Friend

Shereen Travels Cheap

Traveling with a friend can be awesome. It can also be stressful. More stressful than traveling with a significant other or family. If you know how to do it right, you'll still be friends when you return. It helps to plan trips with someone you know you have things in common with to begin with.

Five Frugal Things | Pumpkin oats, 50 cent Frosties, and more

It doesn’t have to be perfect to bless other people.

The Frugal Girl

(This is a post I wrote 9 years ago, and I thought it needed to see the light of day again.). Ahh, perfectionism. It almost sounds like a virtue, doesn’t it? In reality, it is such a snare in so many ways, not the least of which is its tendency to render us immobile.

The Frugal Girl

I promise I didn’t do all the alliteration on purpose. Peer pressure usually gets a bad rap(and it is true that hanging around spendy people can tempt you to spend), but I’ve noticed that the right sort can have a very positive impact on the way that I view my finances. Fresh Inspiration.
